    Some Tuning News

    Hi All,

I've been trolling the net for some time now trying to find some performance bits for the R36 and I believe I may have stumbled on something.

    There is a company in Melbourne called QSZ (www.qsz.com.au) and they deal with the Wetterauer range of chiptuning products. It just so happens that Wetterauer do a chip for the R36 with the following specs;

    Power - up from 220kW to 231kW
    Torque - up from 350Nm to 380Nm
Top Speed - up from 250kph to 270kph

The torque increase is especially appealling.

QSZ also do a range of exhausts for VW's but the R36 is not specifically mentioned. (the damn new Beetle is though ) I'll give them a call tomorrow and get some further info on the chip (price and availability) and I'll enquire about exhaust and high flow airfilter availability.

    Cheers
    Sean

By going to the Wetterauer site direct, they have many chip upgrades for just about any Passat. Wetterauer site:
    http://www.wetterauer.de/

The 3.2lt V6 can be upgraded:

    Power 184Kw @ 6300rpm to 195Kw @ 6300rpm

Torque 330Nm at 2,500-3000rpm to 360Nm at basically the same rpm.

Top speed from 246 to 252Kmh.

Not Really a massive increase though is it. I assume there will be more to come.

I believe you could also look at the Toureg 3.6L tuning equipment, as the Passat is an uprated version of that engine (from research I have done on the net).

I am pretty happy with the power delivery and Torque tbh, however understand there may be others who desire more!!
Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers

I'm happy with the oomph but still think it should sound a little better...

Just looked up the 125 TDI upgrade:

    Power 125Kw @ 4200rpm to 148Kw @ 4200rpm

Torque 350Nm at 1750-2500rpm to 420Nm at same rpm.

That's performance gains of nearly 20%!!! Wonder what this does to fuel economy though... Would also like to know what the 0-100k time drops to.

Check out the power & torque curves. Sweet....

Not massive, but for a natuarally aspirated engine the torque increase is impressive.

    Warranty

I have a MY09 Passat due in March... does anyone know if chip upgrades affect warranty? I would assume so.

It most likely does but the dealer would need to be able to detect it first. Some chip upgrades are difficult to identify in that they don't necessarily reveal themselves during a standard diagnostic service. Others do.

It depends on several things as to whether the upgrade can be "seen" by the technician. Some chip-tuning can be reversed or removed before sending the car in for service and then reinstalled afterwards.

When I get more info on this upgrade I'll let you know.

    Cheers

But I wonder how the chips get affected whenever the softwares are updated?
