I see I'm gonna have to get my arse down there for a looksee.

A turbo engined tune will always yield great results. It made a massive difference to my GTI.

but on a normally aspirated engine, results will be less noticible.
Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers

I just sent mine to a tuner (Evolve Technik) in Melbourne. It is expected to gain 16KW and about 30Nm of torque. My goal is to make the car beat my mates Evo 9.. At a 1/4 mile the R36 is about 1.5 secs slower

Unfortunately you will need to add a lot more than 16kW/30Nm to chop 1.5 secs off the 1/4 mile

You're going to have a whole heap of trouble trying to beat your mate's evo down the quarter (which is NOT what both cars are built for! ).
Still - glad to see you're willing to give it a try!

Is the Evo stock as well?

    Gotta agree with R34.
The Evo9 weighs around 1500kg with 390Nm on tap. Your R36 tips the scales at 1726kg with 220Nm of shove. A rechip will improve things by maybe only a 10th or 2....maybe
To beat the Evo you'd need to spend some BIG bucks and bolt on a snail.

Guys i have had my R36 for about a month now and have just started looking into do the turbo upgrade. I have done a lot of mods to other car (jap cars) but never to a euro car, i have spoken to my guy who has all done my cars in the past and is willing to look into it for me. I would be looking for around 280kw to 300kw. My guy thinks it can be done with out too much cost to the project, just depends on how much custom work is involved. I will keep everyone posted.
