Whats exactly wrong with getting a professional exhaust shop to fabricate a nice high flow exhaust with some good domestically produced mufflers ?

Oettinger will be re visiting the Passat R36 tuning in the coming months. Unfortunately that's all they had to say at this stage!

Nothing in theory. But you run the risk of drone or other annoying sounds. You are basically a test bed for the new exhaust. Been there done that.

I'd prefer a tried and tested system. JMHO

Great news. People are starting to take notice of the poor old R36.

    Hi all,

I got a further reply from Evolve-Technik today. Please see below for the entire response.

    Feedback and interest welcome.

    Hi Sean

I'm glad we can meet your expectations for customer service, we are
aiming to set new standards in this industry.

Regarding your comments on the forum, once again, thanks for the
positive comments. If you get the chance to edit your post which
specifies 30KW and change it to 30HP, that would be great

I spent many hours going over options with our tuner last night re R36
(time differences are a killer!!!). We can offer the following
options for you and potentially other forum members:

VW R36 evolve technik ECU tune (std 220kw/350nm - tuned 236kw/374nm).
This tune has been written, tested and verified on our tuner's dyno in
Germany. The cost of this tune is $1870.20 incl GST.

We would expect that the combination of tune and exhaust would take
the gain to 22kw (16kw with tune alone). This is speculative at this
stage as these exhausts would need to be produced and then tested.

If there is sufficient demand (and interest) in producing exhaust
systems for the R36, then we can arrange this. We can get these
fabricated and produced by our tuner in Germany. We would need a
minimum order of 5 systems to make this viable. What's more important
is ensuring the exhausts produce a sufficient gain (and improvement).
We would need to inspect an R36 exhaust initially and determine what
sections could be improved. If the headers are restrictive, then a
full system may be warranted - if the headers are OK, then maybe a
headers-back system may be the only thing required to improve flow and
performance, eg cat, mufflers etc. It's too early to say but we would
estimate that to develop and land a full systems (five) would cost
each customer between $2,900 - $3,500 not including GST and fitting.
This would vary according to whether they are either full or part
systems and what specifications are requested, eg 100 or cell cats. We
realise that getting a firm order of five systems in advance may be a
challenge for you, given these systems are yet to be developed and the
potential gains may not be significant enough to sway some R36 owners
to go-ahead. However, it can be done!

In the meantime, the tunes are available and are a good start. Once
you receive delivery of your R36, we could tune it for you and you can
assess it for yourself. With normally aspirtated engines, the gains
(when tuning) are not as profound as they are with forced-induction
cars. This is where customer expectations need to be managed - this
isn't an issue with customers like yourself who are knowledgable on
    these things.

I hope this helps and we look forward to your response.

    Regards

For those with a 125kw TDI Passat, cost of ECU tune with evolve-technik is a touch under $2k.

My post above with the quote from evolve-technic is all they have so far, that's why I posted it.
They are attempting to source R36 bits and Neil will keep me informed so I can update everyone via this thread.

    Only Modest Gains..

Gains of around 25kW / 30Nm are modest to say the least.

Do you think the tune will be noticeable / significant / negligent??
