Saying them in person, or in a group of people where body language, tone, accentuation, facial expressions, gestures and different levels of sarcasm etc all have an impact makes a huge difference. But the medium we have here is text, and text only... Hence my original reply was "Stupid low looks crap! lol" which has immediate impact and conveys exactly what I think in exactly the same was as could be conveyed face to face by saying something with less impact but instead relying on the physical associations.
Also, while it also may not be obvious, the lol that is included is also meant to signify me laughing as I'm saying it... Now I can have a pretty whacked sense of humour which I KNOW doesn't translate to plain text. I'm not trying to say I was making a joke but the general impact on people (if you were to put this into a face to face situation) of laughter and sarcastic undertones is contagious, and in my experience both sides of this (those that like and those that dislike) could stand around laughing at each other and each others comments and being sarcastic based on their opinions. Also something the unfortunately doesn't translate to plain text.
Hope that makes sense...
