I was flicking through the latest wheels mag and they mentioned this car arriving in june. I believe it is part of the vw family. Is this the same 3.6L used in the R36 but detuned ? And is it the same dsg ?
correct, whilst Skoda (and the superb) use a same base to work from the quality of the build and attention to detail is still not the same... yet. I drove a new superb a couple of weeks back and it still was not close to a passat. The brakes were soft, some of the plastics were still not up to VW. The suspension would need some tweaking.
The extended wheelbase on the superb was the biggest issue however, this was a great car if you need the extra space but this effected the handling too much!
The other main point was it was promoted as a cheap option but if you took the V6 with leather and the kit the price was line ball with the Passat V6 highline..... I ended up just buying an R36
a wise decision ... but i'm biased
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
The difference is not huge but it is there in places. Dont get me wrong if I was looking for a Fairlane or Caprice then the Skoda is a great alternative.
Specific examples I found were... the centre console plastics between the seats was poor, with the mould mark on each side visible and feelable (is that a real word). The cup holder cover was awful, the centre ceiling light felt like you could push it through the roof liner also. The brakes (on the 2.0 TDI) that I drove were very soft and doughy in feel, it left no confidence at all.
I also only drove it once but I do test drive cars alot, (it took me 2 years to buy the R36!!!)
2 years to buy the R36
Man, I was convinced in 2 minutes.

ROLF... I should clarify.... it took me 2 years, a 50% tax deduction and my accountant saying its cheaper to buy a car, for me to finally decide to choose a car...
It was either sell the Monaro and buy an R36 or Sell the 4WD and buy a Touareg. 1 test drive in the R36 and I was hooked!
