    Should I do 60,000km service at 4 yrs/48,000km on clock?

    Hey guys.. I have a 2009 R36 that I've owned for a year (bought 2nd hand from dealer).

    The last service (12 months ago) was a "45,000km" service when it had 40,000km on the clock.

    Is it correct that I should now get the 60,000km (inc DSG?) service even though I only have 48,000km on clock, because I'm up to 4 years old?

    My previous cars were never this nice so I just did oil changes regularly rather than 'scheduled' intervals etc, so this is a bit new to me.

    As an indication I am about to get my 30,000k check done because its 2 years and car has only done 13000k

    The servicing is Time or distance so whichever comes first you abide by In both our cases time has elapsed before Kilometers have been reached Polo got two years with 11,00 on it cos brake fluid has to be done every 2 years as well

    Reading the manual suggests that you definitely do oil changes and inspection servicing based on time, but the DSG service seems to be listed as 60,000km (ie specific to distance travelled).. anyone know?

    It was raised in the Golf mk6 section and was pointed out that Europe don't have the time interval in their service guides, just the mileage limit, although I don't believe this was ever confirmed definitively.

    Based on other forum discussions the jury seems a little divided on this.

    Ok further evidence of only a mileage limit:

    4 year/60 k service

    Assuming all prior services were done by the book, the following items are due now:

    Engine oil (every 15k or 1 year)
    Oil filter (every 15k or 1 year)
    Pollen filter (every 30k or 2 years)
    Spark plugs (every 60k or 4 years)
    Brake fluid (every 2 years).


    The rest:

    Air filter (every 45k or 3 years)
    6-speed DSG (every 60k)
    Haldex fluid (every 60k) - up to MY09
    Haldex fluid (every 3 years) - from MY10

    can be done later, but check all service records thoroughly to see if anything else is (or isn't) due.

    As I said on another thread:

    Neither the European nor Australian service schedule specifies a time interval - only a distance interval of 60 000 km.

    But you can request that it be changed earlier if you wish.

    I find it interesting that VW tell us every year or 15,000km.

    In both my service manuals it states this with a proviso of having a certain PR number on the vehicle data sheet.

    For the Passat it says if it has QG0, QG2 or QG3 My vehicle has none of these designators For the Polo it says IF QG0 or QG2 It has neither

    The service book has the 15,000k or 1 year ticked as what to do.

    Yes it has only the 60,000k for the DSG but oil degenerates over time so I will do mine at the 4 years regardless.

    Any vehicle with the PR number QG1 is setup to be capable of being on the "LongLife" regime, where service intervals are variable and determined by the car itself (between 15k/1yr and up to a maximum of 30k/2yrs).

    However, such vehicles can also be reverted to the "Time and Distance" regime by the dealer, probably under instruction from HQ in Germany - who may have deemed conditions in Australia unsuitable for the LongLife regime for whatever reason. Maybe due to fuel quality, climate, dust, etc...

    But I'm speculating here - I don't know the actual reason why the LongLife regime isn't practised here.
