    Shonky Dealer practice

To say i am mad would be an understatment! This week i asked my Brisbane Dealer to confirm financing arrangements for my car that lands in Australia tommrow. Well, lets just say that things did not go well from here. I was promptly advised that the offer that was made 5 months ago was valid for 14 days. Yes folks, i bought a car based on finance which the dealer knew they could not honour. In short my montly repayments increased by $98 and the fees and charges keep piling up...anotherwords in the last 72 hours the montly cost changed three times and the only explanation was that there were more fees and charges...each day!

When i finally had enought i rang my current financiar, BMW finance and they came back to me within 1 hour with a lower residual, lower montly payment and a one off fee of $395 - fully transperent and fully explained. Whats better is that i have no paper work to fill in, other than to sign the contract they fax me when i pick up the car.

BMW also advised that their rate is valid for 14 days BUT with a solution if we miss this window which costs me nothing. Spectacular service!!!

So this particular dealer will make little to no money on the car, none on the finance and let me tell you, none on the servicing costs. This from a dealer where recently 2 of my cousins have bough 2 R36s, a v6 CC and a work collegue a golf GTI. They will not be getting any more refferals from me.

Now, any ideas on how to get Patricks to release the car within 14 days?

errrr.... it would have been in the fine print mate. Don't be pissed at the dealer because you didn't make yourself fully aware of the deal you made.

the best solution of course is to not finance a car. I can't believe so many people do! what a waste of money all the interest is!

I do accept some responsability for this BUT not all. the VW finance PDS does not cover this and when i have used CHP before (4 prior cars) the dealer has honoured the rate.

PS. Agree re the interest, but its a work car so get some paid and then depreciate the full amount and then throw this back in each year at tax time. Means at the end i always have equity to play with and to your point reduces the overall net cost to me.

Rocket, everyone one is in different circumstances and surely you are wise enough to understand that

For me, why would I use my own capital on something where the entire interest component is tax deductible... I use the capital on actually making more capital that using it on a depreciating item!

Like i said, everyone's situation is different.

NEVER take dealer finance! It is ALWAYS the worst deal in town...

Sorry Rocket36, not sure what planet you are on but most folks cant pay $50K plus CASH for a car! The best we can hope for is that we utilise the car for work and have some relief by way of tax deductions on the interest, depreciation etc

If it is at the dealers then there is NO reason for them NOT to prep it and deliver within 2 weeks! No matter what, they want THEIR money so they will be wanting it out the door ASAP.

BTW. if you signed a contract for finance, they may not let you out of it! If you signed a contract subject to finance, then you can use anyone you like.... or whoever they can get if you can't get you own.

I'm guessing this is the dealer down newstead? If so I had similar issues with them over financing, trade (tried to screw me for $5,000 extra), some other bs that they tried to screw me for another few thousands and the list goes on.

I've gotten excellent rates through the dealers in the past using GE and it's been better than I can source elsewhere.

Agreed, I don't have a spare 50-60-70K sitting around and neither do I have rich parents so like many people finance it is.
