    Shipment schedules

    Hi everyone,

Recently ordered a MY10 passat wagon, current news from the dealer is a late Jan build, with an estimated arrival (of shipment) in late June.

Having never ordered a VW before, is that sort of delivery time normal?

Also, when would the dealer normally receive the VIN (so that I can start tracking the shipment)?

    Thanks!

That seems a bit long between build and delivery.

I ordered my R36 in January 2008. It was built in April 2008, as part of the first run of cars destined for Australia. I took delivery in mid June 2008.

You should be able to get the VIN a week or so before the car is built.

I agree with Steve. I'd quiz the dealer a bit harder on why such a long transit time. Delays between ordering and build are outside the dealer's control. 3-4 months from build to delivery is the normal range.

I wonder if the dealer expects there to be a significant delay in building your car because of component shortages. IIRC there were big delays in the UK recently with certain model of Skodas with particular options because some suppliers couldn't keep up with demand.

Some dealers seem reluctant/unable to pass on VINs to customers waiting for special orders. I can't think of any good reasons why not, only bad ones where the dealer is considering doing something shonky like selling "your" car to someone else and getting a new (later build) order for you to take delivery of later.

Hey Waringb, I ordered my Passat R36 just in mid September 09 and my vehicle shipment arrived in the country on December 20th. An email was sent this morning to advise that they now have the vehicle at their dealership for prepping. I've also heard with Patricks they can hold onto the cars for a bit.

My last MK5 GTI took 6months until delivery so sometimes the waiting can be 3-6mths. I rather be happy to gamble the wait than receive a lemon car that was rushed (fingers crossed).
