self dimming revision mirror poor performance

Is any one else less then satisfied with the self dimming rear vision mirror?
I wish I could change its settings so it stayed dimmed and dimmed darker.

Does any one know if I can get and aftermarket one which has a manual dimmer on it?
    Thanks

Unfortunately they are all not as good as they can be. They should dim more, and the sensors need to be more sensitive. They are very directional, and basically need the headlights aimed at the mirror for it to respond. All you can do is make sure the sensor is clean, and that the rear window is also clean so that the sensor gets the best chance at working.

You could get a stick on prismatic mirror from most accessory shops and stick it to the windscreen. They lool just like the "old" manual dipping mirrors. What you would have to do is turn your standard mirror up (you can't take it off because there is the wire to the LCD panel, and the rain and headlight sensors are built into the base) and then stick the aftermarket one below it. It may not look the best however.

Mine seems to work fine. I do have tinted windows so the intrusion is less than standard. Also I have the blue tint side mirrors from ECS so they reduce headlight glare as well.

Yes, tinted or privacy glass rear windscreen does help

Mirror dimming on our new Alltrack seems to be much less effective than on the Mk4 and Mk5 Golfs we have had previously.
