well as i said, i mainly drive city streets (i live 8kms from CBD) and driving to office is usually a start stop affair. I find though when i give it some if i drive to gold coast, sunny coast or toowoomba (for work) the it gets better! I put it down to the DSG, cause the right foot can be heavy. This is a stark difference to my previous car (XR5 turbo) where you could actually see the fuel tank empty.....

fair enough, i drive to sydney uni everyday and if i have a bit of fun on the way i get about 11.8L (not too much traffic). however if i have good fun it climbes to around 13.5-14.5. and if you ask dave, he'll tell you that if your consumption is below 16L/100 you're not moving at all (thats considering we have lighter bora's).

don't know why 10-12L in the city from a 2.0T, 1500kg car is scary

Hehe that's because I'm a bit of pussy and poor at the same time.
and 10-12L looks bad against 125 TDI though it's a bit slower...

Mate I've made the switch from a 650KW XR6 Turbo to a Passat 103KW TDI DSG, I drove both the FSI and TDI and even though I love the performance side of things, I just couldn't get over how good the TDI is on fuel. After spending over $200 a week on fuel in my XR6T I'm not looking back on buying the TDI, best advice is to go for a long drive in both and see which one you like the feel of more. At the end of the day its a personal choice.

Best of luck with it all

Such as rattle, engine knock/ping or noticeable power loss near the end?
    Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the delay, thought I replied to these questions but my post must have disappeared into the ether.

Apart from a leaky washer bottle replacement during warranty there has been very little wrong actually. Don't feel the aircon is as good as it could be in summer. VW replaced a few parts but I think that some early compressors are just not so good.

No engine pinging etc or power loss though its clearly better in winter being a turbo. Never had a rattle but its very sensitive to tyre wear and gives a thrumming sound when the tyres are worn or pressure is incorrect. I've done >80,000 km now. Can't complain really. I have wondered whether it has lost a bit of power over time, but this could just be me adjusting to it. Nice engine, well made, lots of hi tech goodies on mine!

Someone is offering me $29000 for 125 TDI 80,000km Passat
Seems like a very good deal to me and good compromise between 147 TFSI and 103 TDI
May I proceed fellow Das Auto Volks?

sounds good but just make sure you get it with an extended warranty ( buy one if you have to). also check all the electrical gadgets are working ok -- these are seriously complex cars.

you will be delighted with the power/ performance and economy of this baby.
