    Unhappy Scratched chrome trim around drivers side windows on brand new Passat - how to fix

    Hi

    Last friday I took delivery of a brand spankin new Passat MY13 118TSI.
    Initially I noticed a small bit of paint damage near the front tow point, and a small scratch on the bumper bar after taking it home. Dealer organised touch up paint from VW which I should be able to pick up soon.

    Unfortunately I just noticed lots of fine scratches on the driver side window chrome trim for both the driver and passenger windows. Most of the scratches are very fine, but there is one on the driver side trim which is perhaps a ml deep.
    I only noticed this after washing the car with a brand new microfibre wash mitt, which makes me think there may have been some kind of polish helping to hide the scratches.

    Anyone know of a good product to use that will hide the scratches? Is there something that can be a more permanent fix?
    Or given that it was likely delivered in this fashion is it reasonable for the dealer to replace the chrome strips or provide some other repair?

    I've only ever bought a brand new car once ('08 Astra), and I think I had a certain amount of time to raise any issues regarding rattles or scratches before Holden relinquished all responsibility. I think it was something like thirty days, so I would raise it with you're dealer asap

    Was in at the VW dealer service dept the other day and rattles are only covered up to 3,000km. After that they won't do rattle/squeak rework (at least at my local VW service).

    Regards trim I'd get onto them ASAP. Same as with hire car you have to inspect them real close BEFORE leaving so that you can mark all the dings and scratches. Almost impossible once you've had the vehicle in your possession. Agree it's going to be a tough one to prove.

    They have almost certainly been done by a careless pre delivery detailer at the time...

    They need to correct it, without just filling the 'scratches' with polish or wax....

    Thanks all.

    The dealer is going to have a look this Thursday. I'll let you know what they say.

    Though now it looks like I've picked up a small ding in the middle of my passenger door, in my first post delivery car park damage

    Dang, upon closer inspection it looks like there is fine circular scratching over the clear coat of the bonnet.

    The dealer will be taking a look tomorrow, but what do you think is a fair and reasonable outcome?

    Can a good detailer fix the bad work of another?

    I had a problem with one of my trims - the rear passenger door was way out of alignment as can be seen in this image. How the pre-delivery missed it I'll never know. Noted it at delivery, and the dealer had a good look at it at the 1,000km check-up, ordered a new part and fitted it a couple of days later.

    The dealer took a look, and applied touch up paint to the front bumper, and polished the chrome trim.
    The front bumper was laughably bad, and the chrome trim was less obvious but some weird effects that looked like some kind of top coat was removed in parts during the polishing.

    They are taking it for a few days to see what their paint guy can do with the front and rear bumper. Not sure about the chrome though, they sounded really reluctant to do anything about it, saying that often the replacement parts they order arrived scratched.

    Mate that's unacceptable, their peanut "detailers" are usually hopeless too and will only make it worse. Touch-up paint does not belong on a new car, demand that it is repaired properly.

    I'd find a good detailer to fix it up and send the dealer the invoice.... or if the paint is cactus because they've cut too hard, a full respray at a minimum. Even then - what a hassle.

    I had the same prob! pre delivery they didn't do proper paint decon, so all this iron specs stuck on paint. I asked them to fix it..and guess what they scratched the paint more. Lesson learnt.. FFFFFF!! the dealership and Do it yourself. VW Dealership gets enough fleet order to care about private customers.
