    Santa delivers R36 - 9 Months later...

Ordered my R36 BB Wagon last Christmas eve and picked it up yesterday. So worth the wait. Pics will be uploaded in when I get a chance.

Just got back from driving around Europe (France, Greece, Spain and Italy)for 7 weeks in a 2010 Golf TSI and the R36 seriously feels like its bigger brother. Similarities are uncanny.

Also after being on the constant lookout, I managed to spot only 1 R36 and that was at VW car dealership in Greece. It was a 2009 CW sedan with 8,000km selling for 38,000 Euro which is about right when converted.

My travel mate however who went to Germany spotted dozens of them in less than a week which makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if outside Germany, Australia has the most R36s.

Will most likely sit on that lot for a long time - the amount of tax you pay in Greece for a car with a 3.6L engine basically prohibits you from owning it - and if you can afford the tax, then you can afford a much better car.

    well worth the wait?

heres a question: would you wait 9 months again for a car?

in our case 6 months was too long and couldnt go through it again.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

My logic was with spending so much on a car, I'd rather order it the way I wanted so I have no regrets. So in reality although it sucked waiting, I would have waited longer in order to get the car I wanted.

After driving it for 5 days it has been well worth the wait. I often challenge people to find me a better all round new car under $100,000 which is amazing considering some people have bought them for around 60k drive away.

Congrats on both your purchase and your stamina! We only waited a week for ours and even that seemed too long LOL. Although having just traded in a '00 model Passat, we were well overdue for a new car and in a way I have been waiting quite a long time for a car. Were you told it would be that long when you ordered it or were you perhaps given a range of time eg 6-9 months?

We were in a different situation to you, having been advised that they are no longer taking orders for R36's so it was a case of choosing from what was available. TBH though, we probably would've gone for the options we ended up with, with perhaps the exception of the sunroof - I am enjoying it (as are the kids!) but I wasn't overly fussed on the price tag - debatable whether we will get $2k worth of use out of it.

    Enjoy!!

I was told around 7 months wait as a worst case scenario because of the GFC and production schedules. At the end of the day it comes down to how badly you want it.

The sunroof for me was the 1st option I ticked. I always drive (unless it is bucketing down) with the roof on tilt. I find the cabin air circulates a whole lot better. Functioning the sunroof is not as practical as other car roofs, but like anything you get used to it.

I will post some pictures when I work out how do it. I don't think it's as simple as copying and pasting. It appears I need to host them on a URL somewhere.

I hope the wait was sweetened a little by the knowledge of what a great car you were going to get at the end of the wait .

Thanks for your comments re the sunroof - I think I'll try the tilt function - at the kids' request (no, make that *demand*!), I was just putting it straight back, IYKWIM, and found the bright sunlight a bit distracting. I should elaborate on my previous comments about other options - it was as much a matter of budget as anything else when considering what we wanted/needed *sigh*.

I created a Photobucket account and uploaded my piccies on there - if you have a look this post

it tells you how to post photos.
