    Safety gear at work!

Enjoying a Sunday cruise to do a little work early this morning. Sitting on the speed limit and travelling along a very clear-viewed, dual-lane straight when a P-plater turns in front of me at the lights on a red-arrow! No sun in their eyes, no question of the arrow (my light had been green for quite some time!), nothing! I hit the brakes and feel the ABS (and brake assist) pulse hard and pull the R36 up very quickly and very controlled! The Commodore car in the lane next to me hit the anchors and went sideways and was lucky not to cause an accident. I hit the horn (very, very aggressively!) and was rewarded with a look of total shock and then bemusement from the passenger of the P-plated car (yes I was that close I could see the Bolle mark on his sunnies!) As I continued slowly past the lights I saw in my revision mirror the red arrow from which she turned and then cars continuing behind me in my lane. I presume the P-plater was deep in discussion with her partner and didn't think or felt she could race across. Anyway, I'm relieved that I drive into intersections with my foot hovering near the brake, and I drive a remarkable sports car! I reckon the Commordore driver next to me could be giving their underwear a little extra cleaning today!

Glad to see that you didn't have an accident and that the Passat's brakes did their job.

FWIW, you're in a new car and a new Commodore has ESP and ABS and wouldn't have ended up sideways....
