Hey dodo, a fellow Runcornian, I'm just off Nemies Rd.
I've been considering upgrading to the RNS510 as well for my Golf, you can source them off eBay. Check through this thread:

    VW Car Audio and Electronics

    for further details.

This guy in Lithuania seems to be most peoples choice.

I think you will need to get some changes made to VAGCOM.

Search through the posts and if you decide to get a unit then let me know how you go.

This should help you work out what needs to be done:

hey dodo, I put the rns and the bt in my R36 a while back. RNS is a really easy swap, you may need vagcom but sometimes not, vagcom basically will only code for the mfd directions. the bt is a lot more work, it has to be run through the drivers console up the pillar and to the roof, plus you can either place the unit behind the rns like some, or under the drivers seat in the oem spot. any place that does stereo installs and most workshops should be able to do the bt install if you dont want to tackle it yourself.

I've got the crappy dealer fit bluetooth which literally does nothing except answer the call (could have got something that did that for $50), I'd like to upgrade that to the 9w7 version which is an all seeing all dancing version of BT (from what I've read). Not sure how easy it is to swap that over? Any idea Nath?
Having only had the Golf for a few months it'll be difficult convincing the finance manager that I 'need' the RNS unit but it does mean I can hand the RCD510 down to her to go into the Polo

All depends on what the dealer fit BT is as I have no idea.

The OEM kit, if installed in the OEM spot, will have a polystyrene box under the drivers seat with the mic positioned where the overhead lights are up front. If its just an older version of the VW BT and fitted in this way you should be able to get away with simply swapping out the box under the seat if all the wiring is the same, but I have no idea.

If they've installed something different then its a full install sadly, took me about 2 hours the first time in my GTI, when I put it into the R36 I paid someone as I didnt have the time.

Thanks Nath, I'll have a look tomorrow and see if the box is under the drivers seat.
