Download the custom firmware from kamold available here:
New firmware for RNS510/Columbus versions 4120 and 5210 make sure you read the warnings about your RNS version first
Works wonderfully on mine.

You can do it without upgrading firmware by burning the contents of one of these ISO images to CD at the slowest write speed possible:
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B4...J1MlQtRms/edit
There's also a CD to disable VIM.
thanks all, downloaded to cd and unlocked it. so excited it WORKS
cheers

Just a heads up for those applying this mod - having video visible while in motion may be in violation of the road rules in your state. There does seem to be a bit of ambiguity for some states though. I've looked at the National, NSW, Victorian and SA road rules. They all start off the same:
but they differ in the 'exceptions' clauses. Victoria, SA and the national road rules state:299 Television receivers and visual display units in
motor vehicles
(1) A driver must not drive a motor vehicle that has a television
receiver or visual display unit in or on the vehicle operating
while the vehicle is moving, or is stationary but not parked,
if any part of the image on the screen:
(a) is visible to the driver from the normal driving position;
A "driver's aid" is defined in the road rules as inclusive of:(2) This rule does not apply to the driver if:
(b) the vehicle is not a motor bike and the visual display unit is, or is part of, a driver’s aid and either –
(i) is an integrated part of the vehicle design;
I would consider the RNS510 to be a visual display unit that is part of a driver's aid and is an integrated part of the vehicle design. So using that interpretation, in theory, it should be legal to enable VIM in Victoria and SA, as the rules only specify that the unit is CAPABLE of being a driver's aid, not that the exception only applies while it is being used as a driver's aid.1 Closed-circuit television security cameras.
2 Dispatch systems.
3 Navigational or intelligent highway and vehicle system equipment.
4 Rearview screens.
5 Ticket-issuing machines.
6 Vehicle monitoring devices.
However, the wording in NSW's road rules is more specific:
I would interpret the NSW rules to mean that the exception only applies when the VDU is actively being used as a driver's aid (ie displaying climatronic information, stereo information, reversing camera image/sensors or satnav information)(2) This rule does not apply to the driver if:
(b) the visual display unit is used as a driver’s aid and either:
(i) is an integrated part of the vehicle design,
Is this a loophole for Vic and SA drivers with RNS510s?
Disclaimer: IANAL, and my interpretation of the road rules may not be the right one.

I would not take this advice as good advice on the law. It is not performing the function of a drivers aid whilst video other than are reverse camera are playing. There are very logical reason such as trucks that pick up your rubbish that have video screens on whilst in motion and they are considered vehicle monitor devices...
