The other option is to look at the Chinese replacement units WD6000 or such gives you the whole fruit for about $1000. Best bit is you can run what ever GPS software you want. Look at this forum or the GTIMarkV forum for more information.
I think you are right. $3000 for Sat Nav is quite expensive.
Now that I know that the outlet is towards the front for power or even some of the fuse box mods I have seen it should be fine to use the windscreen mount.
I am looking forward to when the car arrives - can't come fast enough.

I fitted RNS510 into my kids Golf V. Antenna sits above unit on metal bar across dash. Use double sided tape to stick to metal bar. Reception is fantastic. I have a Passat CC with factory fitted Sat Nav and speed of retrofit seems no different. Best thing, was that no reprogramming was needed, just plug and play.
Guy
Hardings did the installation of a RNS510 and Skoda bluetooth kit into a new skoda superb for me via the dealer about 2-3 weeks ago - and I am really happy with it, however I have a couple of questions if that is ok?
Am I supposed to get a nav database disc with the installation?
When do you think a new nav update will be released and do you think that the traffic function will be enabled? I am guessing that the system doesnt work at the moment due to the database.
Do you know how to load custom POI's? I saw that there is a way of doing it by editing the nav database disc however I dont have that disc.
Finally - the Balero that was removed from my car has a scratch across the front of it - do you know if that front screen is a cover and can be replaced easily or whether it is a more difficult issue - and can that Balero unit be installed into a 2007 MkV Golf - I am guessing that databus issues will be the biggest problem.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
