So I purchased the VCDS dongle yesterday and changed the setting so I can now check what SW version I'm running through the setup menu of the RNS510. Turns out I'm running 2680 which I thought is pretty recent.

Apom, what version did you upgrade to which enabled you to have the OPS on the left hand side of the RVC screen?

I am pretty sure it was the 2660. Swallowtail actually did it for me.

In looking again at your image it may not be the firmware, something seems amiss here. The box on the left that is empty is where it should show the parking sensor overlay. You have the window but no image. Prior to the upgrade, i simply didnt have the window. Swallowtail, any ideas?

    Here's what's reporting using VCDS:

    02873 - Control Module for Back-Up Camera (J772)
    004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00100100
    Fault Priority: 5
    Fault Frequency: 29
    Reset counter: 122
    Mileage: 1080 km
    Time Indication: 0

Does that help anyone identify what my issue is?

Adrock, I'm confused... can you tell me in a summary what you have and how it is connected? Does your OPS work at all? What shows on the screen when you select reverse? What hardware changes / firmware changes / VCDS coding changes have you made from factory?

I had the RVC professionally installed so I'm unaware of what coding changes he may have made at the time. He told me the camera he's used is from an A4 wagon, but that's about all the detail I have. I'm pretty sure he didn't make any firmware changes as when he first got the vehicle he said he'd have to update the RNS, but upon installation of the camera found that he didn't need to after all. It's currently running 2680.

When I select reverse it shows the normal OPS screen and an icon in the bottom right corner which when pressed takes me to the camera. When the camera is in operation the OPS is still audible but obviously I can't see it. From the camera screen I can revert back to the OPS screen if I wish. I was unaware the OPS was meant to appear on the camera screen until somebody posted that on here after seeing my earlier images.

I hope that helps, cos I'm confused too.

guys just an update on the reverse camera thing. I have just completeed a full OEM retrofit for an r36 wagon and it was dead easy. Bought the retrofit kit from advanced ice and then install was as esay as plugging and running cables. Plug the VAGCOM in code and off you go

if your keen call leigh at advnaced ICE and he can hook you up, no need to start chasing parts etc from VW the kit comes in under $900

So do you have the OPD on the reversing screen on the left hand side?

Yes i do, the install was very simple. Run the supplied cable from the RNS to the rear control box for the RVC. Then replace the trunk handle with the new handle with camera, run camera cable to control box. Code reset RNS and off you go.

I have the OPD and the guide lines as per factory it was a very easy install and coding was easy, I dont know why there has been so much debate over it.

    OK, bear with me here.

So did you use part number 36492-2 from advanced ice? Does that module go behind the head unit or in the boot where the camera is? I didn't install mine so if I know where it goes I'll pop the tail gate or head unit out to check whether or not it's the Kufatec unit that was installed in mine.

Perhaps my coding is wrong? Are you able to tell me what your settings are, or PM me a summary from VCDS?

OPD was something I was keen on, but I'd be super impressed if I can get the guidelines happening like you're saying too.

The factory setup on the Passat has a controller at the rear that takes a composite signal from the camera, adds in the movable lines and retransmits as a RGB signal to the head unit.

The factory setup on the Golf has a controller built into the camera that transmits a RGB signal directly to the rear of the head unit with fixed lines.

If you want to fit a RVC to the Passat and connect it straight to the head unit you need to use the camera from a Golf or other VW model that has the RGB output otherwise you'll need to use the correct controller from VW to get the moveable lines (quite expensive to buy from VW Aus but not too bad from ebay.de).

If you want OPS to operate you can't do this with any of the Kufatec interfaces IIRC. The Kufatec interfaces are rubbish IMO, they don't work reliably, they have poor support for new firmware (either need to send the controller back to Germany or buy a new one), they take quite a while to release support for newer firmware versions and support in general is poor.

I would avoid any retrofit kits that use the Kufatec interfaces and just use the OEM camera and loom, it will work and work well, it will work consistently in the future with firmware upgrades to the head unit, it doesn't require additional boxes and wiring behind the head unit and troubleshooting will be a lot easier.
