Reverse camera for the Passat
Was about to order the Passat, but realize RVC is not even an option for MY12. The quote the dealer gave me includes RVC, which I assume they are gonna fit an aftermarket one.
After talking to a few people and research in this forum, I was warned that not every RVC integrate well with the RNS510, especially with OEM.
So which system would you recommend? I want one that use the RNS510 MFD screen, rather than installing another screen or use the rear view mirror.
I sort of googled and research on this forum, I came across this brand Kufatec. Is it the best one around? Anyone had experience with this one? Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. So I wanna make sure my desker fits the best one rather than a cheap Chinese one before I sign the contract.
Thanks

When I was speaking to the dealer about this they mentioned it is possible to have the dealer fit a reverse camera to the RCD/RNS510 however it is very expensive to have it done this way. The camera that works with it is not cheap apparently. I'd take this as a grain of salt, it's probably just the usual case of inflated prices as per everything else dealer fitted - but factory fit is always best. This swayed me towards giving up the xenons/leds option and just going with a MY11 already on the boat that has the RNS510 + factory RVC.
Have you had them look for another car for you? Might be something on the way over with factory RVC that you can grab if you're willing to alter your other options.

Not really much choice there. I had a friend that needs one for immediate delivery, his nly choice was a basic 118TSI in white, he can't even choose other color. The ship apparently just docked this week. So I guess those with options are already taken, especially those with RVC.
Besides, I don't need the car until Jan next year when my current lease is due.
Anyway, if the dealer quoted me with RVC, I would insist that be included whether it be factory or delaer fitted. If dealer fitted, I want the best on the market (which I think it's the Kufatec?), not a cheap one from Aldi. But I need all your opinions soI know what to ask the dealer to put into the contract.
But that also explains why my Superb quote was quite high (I requested a dealer fitted RVC utilising the MFD of the Columbus/RNS510), so close to the Passat that made the Superb not that attractive in terms of bang for $.

Was at the dealer today to get the RVC installed as per the sales contract. I had assumed this would be genuine as it was to fit into the flip up emblem and use the RNS510. Turns out it is aftermarket, but still supposed to fit into the flip up emblem and use the RNS510, until the installer cane in and said there is an intrusion bar in the boot which prevents the camera being fitted. Would need to cut the intrusion bar. I asked how the original are fitted as clearly they are either able to fit despite the bar or there is no bar. All they said was factory fitted are different; but still they are the on ly two possibilities. They are waiting to hear back from the supplier as these units are supposed to suit the VW flip emblem. Possible the installer brought the wrong kit. You wouldn't think they'd make a unit that simply wouldn't fit.
Dealer told me these units - after market - are about $1400. Genuine are about $1200 for the parts alone plus fitting. Lucky was part of the deal.
As to Kufatec, I didn't know they had cameras but I have the Blutooth (Fiscon) by them and it actually works better with more features than the factory option. Will check their site to see what cameras they do.
