Has anyone tried removing the front shocks to change springs for 06 Model Passats and newer? I noticed that the top of the shocks are hidden under with a metal plate.
Sent my car to change the springs today and the guys in the shop had a hard time removing the nuts on time as it is covered with the metal sheet and they had difficulty accessing it. They are still working on it.
I'm now having doubts![]()

It is the 3c model. I have the 07 Wagon V6
Not having done any work on the struts on a 3C Passat yet, I can't imagine them being any different to a MK5 Golf. Should have 3 bolts holding them in at the top.

as above.. its not rocket science on a passat.
Perhaps suggest to them to have a look in the raintray under the plastic cover and they will find the 3 bolts Umai Naa is talking about.
Having said that id probably suggest bringing the car to someone with more VW experience.

Actually a reputable tyre shop who does suspension. Can't complain when they offered to reimburse my taxi fare home and back to the workshop. He doesn't know that cab fare from city to my place is $45 each way. Plus he has already heavilly discounted the cost of the eibachs and installation. Might end up just charging me enough to cover the cost of the springs.
My car is back - finally.
It was not the top screw that they had problems removing. Were the bottom ones to remove the strut, particularly front left. They ended doing the hard way by removing the suspension and fitting in the springs - a bit too technical for me.
Anyway, car is lowered now and feels good. Also had a brand new set of tyres to replace to previous set that were "faulty".
I may be too sensitve to steering vibrations feedback at 90-110kmh. Do any of you get any vibrations around the steering when doing this speed, mild ones?. Tried my Volvo and there were some.
Maybe it is the 18inch 40 (previously 17 and 45 series) series that made it stiffer and more sensitive.
