    Remote Start possible?

I just returned from a trip to USA/Canada and both vehicles I rented over there had a remote start feature.

This would be a great feature to have on my R36 with the current heat in Qld (get the A/C running before heading outside)...

Does anyone know if it's possible to retrofit something like this on a B6 Passat (R36), or am I just dreaming?

I assume you could do it with something like the auto tailgate fob mod. All it is doing is activating the circuit. You should be able to do the same thing with the ignition I would assume. Would just depend of there is actually any security attached to the key slot which I highly doubt.

I have seen a setting in some comfort modules for the immobiliser to be deactivated by remote which you will need for remote start. You might want to look in to the legality of it though as in most states a car can not be left running unattended. I am not too sure how new cars with remote start get around it but I believe that the car turns off if the car door is not unlocked by the remote and when the car is put in gear without the ignition on.

I think the easiest way to do this is to keep it as factory as possible, find out if your car came with it in an over seas model and if not, find a model that did with a comfort module that will work on your car. Then adapt it to your car ( Which isn't straight forward) with new remotes.

    Edit.

Actually this is the slot key isn't it... I haven't seen them with remote start only a panic button.

The remote start works with keyfobs that can communicate with the car from a few metres away.
As to get the B6 & 7 to start you have to insert the key in the dash it may be an expensive exercise.

I was thinking of getting the boot release that works if you wave your foot under the bumper when I was in the USA
However I found out that the USA ones have kessy and it wouldnt work in Aussie models,

A there is now the Kufatec boot opener module it wasnt worth trying.

The Chrysler 300 I rented in the US had remote start, unlocking and boot opening which was pretty handy.

As said it its illegal to have the motor running in an unattended car in Aussie. However the cop parked beside my Cruiser never said anything about it when I got out and left it with a turbo timer running.

On our B7 Passat, we have keyless entry, a push button start on/off on the centre console and the boot release as mentioned by Hillbilly above. From my recollection from being in Germany, there was the remote start offered as an option for those cold mornings.

    Thanks for the responses.

    It's a 2008 B6 (R36), with the push-in key fob.

Sorry for the delay. It is a sedan with build date April 14 and plenty of electronics that one suspects are being tested for reliability before going into driverless vehicles. A report of an Audi driverless vehicle seemed to have the same or similar electronics; it was not on the market at the moment.
