Good Morning All,

What is everyones opinion on 2nd hand values of the R36.

I am considering selling my MY08 (June 200 R36 Wagon - Biscay Blue, Sunroof, Auto Tailgate. Near Perfect Condition, 33,000kms.

There isn't anything on the web to compare it to, so I wondered what would people consider a reasonable price?

I was thinking $55k ish, but that is more a guess than anything....

I believe redbook to be wildly inaccurate.

what i normally do is look on carsales.com.au and look at cars with similar options and k's. i know that some of these are also very ambitious prices but if there are heaps of them for sale you tend to get a margin that they are all in.
being an R36 there may not be many for sale so you might find it difficult to get an idea on prices.

Redbook is good as a guide. It can't possibly take into account the condition of individual vehicles, options, kms etc. But it is pretty accurate for the majority.

But I reckon $55,000 - $60,000 would be on the money to advertise it but be willing to be negotiable... It's cliche but the market will only pay what the market will pay.

There are 34 R36s for sale on CarPoint at the moment... Based on two of those (below), you should be able to sell for $55,000 pretty easily. However there may not be a very big second hand market for such a niche car.

Given there are stuff all of them around id definitely chance it in around the 60 mark initially. there is only that 1 other blue wagon with 14,000km on it in NSW for that money and it doesnt appear to have many extras on it.

If you want rid of it quickly, then go in at 59

Problem is, any time you sell a car second hand, you have to weigh up waiting for someone who really wants it and would therefore be likely to pay a higher price, or settle for a lower price to get rid of it quickly.

Let's face it, it's never about making money with a car. It's just a matter of working out how much of a loss you're willing to accept. Personally, time and inconvenience is worth a lot more to me than a mere few thousand extra dollars.

How come you're thinking of selling? What ideas have you got for replacing the R36?
Like the others have stated, with not much else on the market to compare with i reckon you're starting price would be around the right point.

This is going to sound really stupid, but I am thinking of selling as the car is "too good" for Sydney.

Before Rocket sprays me for my opinion, I will clarify......

My wife is pregnant with our first child and will take over the car from July.

The car is so low that the spoiler on the front bar gets scraped if you are not careful.

I have already bent one alloy from a pothole, and the car crashes and hits around town.

Carparks in Sydney suck. Nobody cares who they are smashing their 1983 toyota camry's doors into when they park.

and dont get me started on microfibre and vomit.

All is fine for me. I am careful going up/ down driveways, and am happy to trade off comfort for a awesome car, avoid shopping centres and I only vomit on the seats occassionally.

My wife thinks she will destroy the car driving it around sydney, in carparks etc. She also loves the R36, and doesn't want it wrecked.

Given it is in perfect condition, we think we might be better of selling it now and buying something more robust and "softer".

She also thinks that a SUV will be easier to load a baby in and out of without having to bend right over.

With this in mind I am considering (it is still only a thought at the moment) that I will sell the R36 now and buy something like -

3.0 TDI Toureg
2.7 TDI Range Rover Sport
3.0 ML320 CDI
3.0d BMW X5
Audi Q7 is on the list but my wife thinks it is too big.

Any of the above options would be second hand ($55-$65k), not new (prob 2 or so years old). I definately want a european car (no one does interiors like the euros)

I just think the above cars will better deal with daily life and after 4 years will still look ok, whereas I can see the Passat looking terrible after 12 months of curbs, potholes and driveways. This will dramatically effect resale on an already niche product.

Apologies for the long response, but just wanted to give the full picture.

I would welcome others comments.

i get it. kids take the fun out of beautiful cars.....

you should have seen the interior ( beige leather) of our 2002 bmw 5 series after 7 years of kids ... trashed.

on that point make sure you get BLACK interior - nearly camouflages vomit.
