    I agree with Pana...

    We went through the same thing 2-3 years ago. I had a Subaru STi and the Missus a Forester. We were planning on selling the Forrester and upgrade to something a bit bigger (same list as yours plus Klugers, Landcruiers and what not), and I'd play with mods/upgrades on the STi.

    It worked out that after bashing about with baby-seats, coping with vomit, banging around in car-parks that the better car for the job was the current one we had until the little one gets a bit older. So the Forrester stayed and I got the CC instead...

    Interestingly though, the CC fits prams and baby seats nicely so both cars suit us and both load balance family duties accordingly....

    Slightly OT but it surprises me the amount of talk about vomit. My sister and I spent hours in cars as kids going from Sydney to out past Wagga on the old Hume Highway which was a goat track when compared to today and without aircon too. And there was never a vomit incident. Do kids these days just not cope as well in cars?

    My daughter has vomited in the R36, silly us for letting her drink too much water after a big meal of cheesy pasta and going through a road work zone with more turns than the nurburgring on the way to QLD.
    The baby seat contained all of it, and no unpleasent smells were left in the car after the baby seat was taken out and thoroughly washed.

    Neither did I as a kid - and we used to spend ages and ages in the back of the car. My son however suffers from reflux so everytime that happens, what he last ate seems to come up with it.

    OK, I have read this thread a couple of times and cant seem to fathom this cargument.

    Fair Comments, thought I should elaborate.

    Mini wont go because it is owned - R36 is leased. We both agree only one car should be leased.

    Mini suits our needs as a second car. It does less than 7000 kms per annum, and due to the condition based servicing only needs attention every 2 years. It works out very cost effective for us.

    I probably should have pointed this out.

    So the wifes stubborn stance on the mini is driven by finances, rather than anything else.

    I dont want to end up with a 4 year old R36 which is worthless because it has been trashed in carparks and day to day use. It currently has a pampered existence, commuting to and from work, golf club and occassional longer trips.

    Appreciate your input though.

    I am not looking to buy new, rather second hand (Novate Lease).

    They will therefore be cheaper than the R36.

    I understand they are bigger, and more likely to get bumps in the doors, but they are not a niche car, and still should be easier to offload in average condition if they get carpark marks. The suspension is softer, they have higher profille tyres, and they are more suitable for the crappy roads we have to deal with in Sydney.

    I fully intend to continue to look after the new vehicle if we get it, as I have all my cars (from a 1983 WB ute, 97 Fairmont ghia to the passat).

    I am more worried about the daily grind of Sydney and young children (plus loading prams etc. into the car) ruining the R36.

    As I said it is still only in the early stages of discussion at this stage. Appreciate everyone's thoughts on the topic, as it is assisting us with the decision.

    As mentioned in a previous thread (after your post) not only does she love the mini (as do I TBH), but it is owned outright, and we only want one vehicle on lease at any one time.

    The Mini is an absolute Hoot to drive. It also suits life as a daily commuter which occassionally goes up the highway (Newcastle). There are also other running cost benefits mentioned previously.

    The V6 Treg is on our list (but not the 2.5, only the 3L) of possible options we will be checking out as part of the process. It will also be around 60-70k, the mini is only worth about $35k.

    Funnilly enough the Mini has anchor points, but I wouldn't want to be the one strapping the child into the back, talk about a strain on your back!

    Hope this clarifies the position. It is not (only!) being Pu$$y whipped, but the minister for war and finance occassionally makes sense!

    fair enough why i said in my post that we're just commenting on the basic argument without knowing the full details.

    But apom makes a very very good point that it is better to have two cars that can share family duties rather than one family car and one that is entirely impractical. We tried that for a bit with the CR-V and my old WRX and in the end got too hard coz the rex was just too small.
