    RCD 510 - Bluetooth Audio

I have noticed on the RCD 510 media display the option for Bluetooth Audio - does anyone know how to enable this function - is it as simple as getting someone with Vagcom to enable it or do you need to buy another after market item that VW charge a fortune for??

Prior to purchase I did an analysis on accessory prices compared to Audi and VW won hands down, but Im starting to get a little peeved with the prices VW want you to pay for simple accessories - the mdi option looks like just a cable with a Vagcom update so spending over $400 is a total rip off!!!!!!

    Hey natwsmith,

Many phones come with the Blutooth Audio option where you phone will transmit Audio over the Bluetooth connection with your RCD 510. From Memory you need to enable it in one of the radio menus.
I have used it once with my Nokia E51. Works ok, but the SD Card option is much better. The Bluetooth Audio will only work if you already have the Blutooth Car kit installed.

    Cheers

Go and price the same option through Audi!

$400 isn't a ripoff when you look at what the MDI can do, it's not a simple cable with a vagcom update but it's the interface that does all the processing before sending the audio to the head unit along with the track details to the head unit and mfd. It's integrates 100% into the car and works a treat.

If you prefer you can use the 3.5mm aux input that will cost you around $30 (if not already fitted).

it is when you compare the cable set for merc to go with the audio interface- you get an iphone cable, usb memory stick cable and auxiliary plug cable for $150. i reckon merc are still making money on the deal too. the really wierd thing is the standard memory socket is for a pcmcia memory card ( very much yesterdays news)

also merc includes bluetooth as standard which for my money should be on vw. you could almost consider it a safety feature these days, considering how many idiots (myself included i must admit ) drive holding the phone.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.
