    R36 Wagon RVC Install Questions

    Hi everyone,
Well today I received my RVC so I have a couple of questions before I attempt to install. Does anyone have any idea which side of the car to pull all the wires down? Without seeing my car, are the door sill/scuff plates hard to get off or are they simply screwed down? I am currently trying to find a how to video so I will keep looking but if any knowledgeable person knows of one, or has done it themselves, some advice would be appreciated greatly. Sorry if this has been asked before too. Thanks a lot.

Hi mate, it will be similar to GTI installation. I read somewhere about the GTI install, they run the cable through passenger side. Worth to check my-gti.com.

for the sills and scuff panels, they are clipped on so just pull up.

Just wondering if it is possible that just tuck the cable under the sills/panels, i am really reluctant to unclip panel as most of the time something will be broken and scratched. I love to have the RVC but pulling thing apart hesitated me now...

Yes installation would be similar to GTI. The cable will be too thick to tuck under the sill. I tried to tuck a basic two wire loom under the sill for rear footwell however gave up and just pulled it up. Those clips will go back in easily however make sure that you have it all lined up before bashing it together.

you will also need to be very careful when pulling the rgb cable through the channel to rear hatch.

ps. if anyone wants a cheap rvc highline kit for wagon with all the cables, controllers etc then pm me. open to offers.

Are you installing a highline camera with control module? coding is more difficult with highline.

Well, ive been beaten. It has got me stuffed how to pull the signal wire through the rubber boot around the wires near the hinges. I managed to get the red power wire through, somehow. I think that i can get an earth for the brown wire on the hatch itself, and the blue wire which i think is the positive for the camera can go to the positive of the reverse light although i was told to just splice it into the red wire! But the signal/picture wire has me beat because it has a reasonable size plug on the end near the hatch. I wonder if a vw dealer knows how to install them because there is no physical way of getting through that boot. I cant get the bloody thing out. Why do they have to make it so hard to do? It really has me angry because i hate getting beaten by something like this! Aargghhh!

I know which wire you are talking about, it does go through but it's a real biartch. I tied a string to the plug, threaded the string through the rubber boot and pulled with one hand whilst squeezing the rubber (making room) with the other. It does goes through in the end mate!!!

I dont see how mate. There is no room on the plastic part facing the interior. It is a silly idea. I cant believe it. I dont see how a VW dealer will do it either! If there was some way to pull the rubber away from the body then it might be possible but i cant pull it out

I have no idea if this is even relevant, but an electrician trick is to use a rod (ie. fiberglass fishing pole), push that through the tight spot, tightly tape the cable/plug/whatever onto it and pull it back through.

Not sure what you're trying to thread through where, but I hope this info is useful somehow..
