Apologies if I've posted this to the wrong area.
I'm in the market for a 'newish' car after selling my previous 156 (kitted of course!).
I drove the R36 wagon some months ago prior ot the decision to discontinue it on the basis I would get a new one with all the options I wanted in 2011 as did not want to buy 2nd hand and compromise.
well that ended quickly.
So I find myself looking at the approx 10 or so R36 wagons on the carsales / carpoint website.
I discount the 2008 (no offense intended) and looking at the MY09/MY10 builds.
there seems to be a wide price gap even with builds in the same year and similar kms.
Ideally I'd like RNS510 with sat nav and RVC (my wife needs the RVC - christ shes needs a bit more but I'm probably offending people on here so I'll stop), and auto tail gate.
I'm taking one out for a test drive tomorrow in Melb (I'm down here on work and actually came down and staying longer with direct intent to see this car, work takes secondary...). There are more wagons in VIC then NSW so naturally I'm here.
What I'd appreciate from you is to know (and i understand the concept of what the market will bear etc) is aside from the red book prices are the current prices on carpoint a little high in some cases and about right?
I think the 2009 should be going for approx $52-$54k (if kms are under say 35k) and fractionally more (say $56-58k) for the 2010 with kms under 15k.
OR am I being a complete prick?
I can't bring myself to buy a CX-7 - which is what my wife thinks I should get, but knows I'll just drive it so hard it will krinkle.
Cheers

The basic R36 drivetrain (3.6l 220kw/350nm V6, AWD, 6sp DSG) lives on in the Passat V6 Highline. So that is an option, depending on your budget.
There were a number of updates in 09/10, but most of the updates were for the other models. Aside from the new instrument cluster with the white MFD and the introduction of the standard RCD510, the R36 hasn't changed a great deal from 2008 onwards.I discount the 2008 (no offense intended) and looking at the MY09/MY10 builds.
The RNS510 is readily available on Ebay and as I understand it, is not difficult to fit. You will need som VAG-COM-fu to get it integrated properly though.Ideally I'd like RNS510 with sat nav and RVC (my wife needs the RVC - christ shes needs a bit more but I'm probably offending people on here so I'll stop), and auto tail gate.
Given that there is no longer an R-badged model in the Passat range, the R36 is probably somewhat collectable now. That may push 2nd hand prices up a bit. What I'd appreciate from you is to know (and i understand the concept of what the market will bear etc) is aside from the red book prices are the current prices on carpoint a little high in some cases and about right?
Chalk and cheese. Be prepared to pay through the nose for fuel for the CX-7 - heavy softroader body, smallish turbo engine...unless you go for the diesel model.I can't bring myself to buy a CX-7 - which is what my wife thinks I should get, but knows I'll just drive it so hard it will krinkle.
I love the write up re the MY10 Wagon, "loaded with options" should read, only one option - sat nav. and "Rare electric roof" should read Sunroof - like all white R36's

It's a great car and at the second hand prices a bargain IMO. Nothing will come close.
Unfortunately for me I'll be leaving R36 ownership for another marque soon because of VWs insane decision to delay a replacement but I digress.
Good luck, you won't regret buying an R36.

Hence why I was "forced" into a very quick sale of my 2009 R36 white wagon at the beginning of March. I went into a VW dealer and asked about the new Passats and when the new R or R36 would be available and they said it would be 18months to 2 years after the standard Passat's release in April. This meant that I would have had to keep my current R36 for a total of 4 years and about 100,000kms, so I aksed if there were any current R36 wagons available and the salesman told me they could lay their hands on the last new one in Oz, a Icelandic Grey wagon. He gave me an excellent trade on my white wagon and I purchased the Icelandic Grey, so, I'm set until the new R or R36 arrives.Unfortunately for me I'll be leaving R36 ownership for another marque soon because of VWs insane decision to delay a replacement but I digress.
