Would shipping become more economical for a group order? I imagine the price would come down especially on the tyres...

The only drama to report is that the inside of each front tyre is worn - so much so that they are on the verge of becoming illegal.

The service guys assured me that it's not my fault, and that it is most likely a set up problem from the factory or from the dealer. They reckon that the rest of the front tyres are in great condition.

The tyres are the standard Dunlop tyres, and while they aren't all that great they certainly should not be worn so much.

Has anybody had similar issues? I recall reading something about this once before, so I know I'm not the only person having this problem... but I can't remember where I read that it's happened before, let alone find the post in question.

I'm going to contact the dealer and see if I have any recourse, which is unlikely but possible I guess.

I was looking at tyres for the GTI on Tyre Rack, now I guess I have to look for R36 tyres too - $$$$

I have four spare Eagle F1's, but they're some crazy 235/60/18 setup... no thanks!

    Edit: Here we are: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=21799
I had an alignment done shortly after picking up the R36. Previously When I bought my GTI I went through the first set of front tyres @ 14k, worn out on the inside. After a wheel alignment I managed a further 30k out of the second set.

With the R36 the Wheel Alignment was way out, and since I had it done in week two, I have 26,000 on the clock and still prob 30% tread on the tyre.

I agree that a wheel alignment after delivery is a great idea to prolong the life of the tyres.....

This could be worth doing, I have experience in shipping imports by the container load. The frieght cost is greatly reduced.

Possibly, but you'd also have to weigh that up with the larger import duties and GST.

Guys, I have just replaced the standard Dunlops with a set of Yokies. The tyre dealership made the comment that the dunlops are prone to feathering at the edges. Oh, the tyres are Advans and the cost including wheel alignment about $1900. cheers pj

    PJ.

What size tyres did you end up getting and how many did you get, almost 2k is pretty expensive.

team_v, the tyres are for my R36 so 235/40/18. I have always had a preference for Yokies for their handling and longevity considering they are a performance tyre. On my MY05 GT I always got over 30k per set. pj

    Thanks for the info PJ.
I have only heard good things about the Yokie advan's.

They are a bit pricey for what i would need (tiguan - not performance) so i will be looking at some Kumho's.

    I had Falken RT615s on my MPS6 - http://www.falken.com.au/tyres/passenger-RT615.html

Brilliant tyre. Quiet at the limit, awesome grip, but pretty soft so wear was not very good. They do it in a 235/40/18.

The 452 is a harder compound not as grippy but probably a better all round compromise than the 615. Had a mate with them on his 6.
