I think the recommended pressure (located on the inside of the fuel door) says around 44psi. I checked them just the other day but it was around that figure.
I think I would go with the VW recommendation over the Beaurepair one.
After 4500Km, the Tyre pressure monitoring system went off..
Went down to Beaurepairs (morningside) looked over the car and told me that the correct PSI is between 36 - 38.. VW often do this too all cars according to Beaurepairs...
Anyway to all my fellow R36 owners you might just want to check your rubber..

Hey Andrew,
I think 44psi is for a fully loaded car....not to be mistaken with a fully sik car!!
are you sure? not that it is fully sik (we already know that) but that is for a fully loaded car?
I will have another look tonight....
Here is my R36 wagon placard:
270kPa is roughly 39.1PSI
320kPa is roughly 46.4PSI
340kPa is roughly 49.3PSI
The tyre pressure warning contraption tells me to check tyre pressures on startup roughly every 4 weeks. I check them regularly and there's been very little variation.

R36 =
i certainly run my tyres at 39 psi and its great. no problems thus far (2200km so far)
might have to squirt some air out.....
I find there is a pressure you use as your standard and then you adjust according to what you want to achieve. If you add people you should increase the pressure. If you are alone and want to have some fun and don't want sloppiness in the corners again increase the pressure. I have found 44 to be the best compromise if you don't want to change it al the time. The only issue I find is that the tyres don't stay there, you have to keep checking and as above, every 3-4 weeks has been working well for me.
