You may get lucky if you are willing to compromise on the colour and/or options. To get the exact car you want will be tough I think in the time frame you need it in.
Hi Folks,
Ok this is my first post and here is the deal.
I am looking for a new car, need to trade my 06 Liberty Spec B sedan, but I need the new one delivered by the end of this financial year.
I am considering a R36 sedan but it must be blue with the roof, sat nav and dynaudio. Now to be honest haven't been to any dealers yet in Melbourne and thought I would try Essendon VW this Saturday.
I haven't driven one yet and may not think much of it so who knows...my other consideration is a 325i sedan...will also go to BMW Melbourne this weekend and take one for a drive.
I won't consider a CC...frameless doors suck, it only seats 4, a mistake for our market IMO, and the sunroof does nothing for me...
So my question is...if I order a R36 this month what are my chances of having it delivered by the end of June????
Have I left this too late? I have read that delivery times can be upto 6 months...is this right? If so I reckon I may be stuffed.
And one other question for R36 owners, what does the engine tick over at a 100kmh? And are you pleased with your purchase...any regrets?
Any feedback or advice will be greatly appreciated,
Cheers Andrew...

Dealer I spoke to says he can get me a white one with sunroof and Sat nav in around 2 weeks. Guess it's hit an miss with colours/option combos.
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts re the 325 compared to the R36 as I'd considered them too
Looked at a turbo Liberty or too worried about new model around the corner?
the 325 is great but quite a bit smaller . if you're ok with that the 325 it's hard to beat.
passat is really 5 series size inside. we just went from a 5 wagon to passat wagon and the passat actualy feels roomier inside. also the passats interior pockets/storage setup is 100% better than bmw. the quality of course isn't quite the same..... like if i had a spare 120k i would have gone for the bm!
for example, check the passat has a bottle holder in each door + cupholders in the center. with bm you're lucky to fit a wallet in the side pockets!
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

it's only been a week but I can vouch for the R36 being a sensational car.
in terms of the 325, I would have thought the cost of options that are standard on the R36, would make the Volksie the much better option?
depends what you are looking for I guess.
Ok Guys, went to Essendon VW and the sales guy has given me a price of about 80K on the road for a R36 sedan with roof, Dynaudio and sunroof...seems excessive to me...is it?
He was adding the LCT to the option prices...thought the LCT ws already included in these?
I told him I only wanted blue with the options listed and he reckons there is only one in the country...in Perth.
They do dealer swaps from time to time but no guarantees.
Otherwise it is 14-18 weeks delivery from time of order.
He didn't have a demo I could drive today, but said he will ring me this week as he is expecting one in.
BTW I drove the 325i sedan today sport pack and it is a very nice car, built like a tank but to be honest wasn't blown away with the acceleration of the thing...seemed to me you really had to push the pedal to get it going...but when going boy it drove and handled well....tiny though when compared to the R36.
I also took a Honda Accord Euro for a drive as well...bland & boring to drive...really a nothing car IMO.
Thanks for the feedback thus far...
Cheers Andrew...
There is both a new one and a demo one in Perth, blue sedan with satnav, sunroof and dynaudio. The demo one has 4100km and is listed at 67 990 on carsales.com.au. It started at something like 71 990 and has gradually been reduced over the last 1.5 mths. The problem with demo is the stamp duty which if I recall was over $4000. Not to mention what people probably do with them. I offered on both of them but at the time what I was offering was a bit too low.
80k is the non discounted price for the options you want. If you can get a fleet discount because of the company you work for it is a great help, usually 10% for the R36. You actually get more than 10% off because the lower value of the car results in less LCT (the 10% is calculated on the cost of the car before taxes and options). Most people in this forum seem to have been able to achieve prices around 65k - 68k even for the wagon with those options. This is a further discount on top of the fleet discount. Check the price for passat thread which has a fair bit on the R36.
I guess you'd need the 335 to get acceleration better than the R36. I too tried both Accords and was a totally different world. The R36 is much nicer to sit in even before you start the engine. The Euro despite its relatively sporty look and twin exhaust pipes is slower than my wife's standard Volvo S40. 0-100 was greater than 9 secs if I recall correctly. Feels ok to 60km/h, I guess that's how they set up the gearbox, but after that it was shocking. The Accord V6 did not feel fast either.
