    Have I left this too late? I have read that delivery times can be upto 6 months...is this right? If so I reckon I may be stuffed.

    And one other question for R36 owners, what does the engine tick over at a 100kmh? And are you pleased with your purchase...any regrets?

    Any feedback or advice will be greatly appreciated,

    Well my friend, let me say to you... after having 4 subaru liberty's and my last was a 06 Liberty Spec B Black Wagon, I just picked up a Black 09 Passat R36 Sedan, with Sunroof and Sat Nav. Mate this thing ROCKS BIG TIME! I'm extremely happy with it, having it now for almost two weeks , i can't stop driving it! The whole package is wonderful and its drive is sensational! I've been a Subaru lover for quite some time now and now I've got something else to get a hard on about! they rock, beautiful car, well worth it!!!!

    P.S There's a really nice white wagon with all the trimmings at Gold Coast VW. I picked up mine almost two weeks ago now and it's still there!

    P.S.S Got mine at $66K drive away

    They do dealer swaps from time to time but no guarantees.

    Otherwise it is 14-18 weeks delivery from time of order.

    He didn't have a demo I could drive today, but said he will ring me this week as he is expecting one in.

    BTW I drove the 325i sedan today sport pack and it is a very nice car, built like a tank but to be honest wasn't blown away with the acceleration of the thing...seemed to me you really had to push the pedal to get it going...but when going boy it drove and handled well....tiny though when compared to the R36.

    I also took a Honda Accord Euro for a drive as well...bland & boring to drive...really a nothing car IMO.

    I would be surprised if you couldn't get a deal around the high 60's for what you are looking for - the corp discount seems like it is applied inconsistently from my experience (I was offered the discount before any discussion about where I worked). I think that if the dealer is keen to move the car then they may use the corp discount as a sweetener. Definitely worth asking.

    Will be interested in your thoughts after you take the R36 for a drive. Don't want to jinx it, but I think you will love it. The sheer acceleration and torque off the line is infectious, and if you are looking for a comfortable, quick machine with a little euro prestige for $68k-ish then I am not sure what else there is.

    Well done that's a good price.
    I am considering a white R36 but can get to see one in person beore I decide.

    I actually had some time to kill today so I test drove the G6E Turbo...holy crap this thing is a rocket ship...a license losing machine.

    The sheer acceleration of the thing for such a big & heavy car was unbelievable...now I undertsand why these things make V8's virtually obsolete.

    There is also a black sedan with sat nav and sunroof on the G.C but no dynaudio, sorry

    I also came from a Subaru Liberty 3.0lt B Spec to a 3.2lt Passat Wagon 4 Motion and I am more than happy with the upgrade. The big difference is the extra low down torque that the Suby lacked and also the DSG gearbox is a revelation. All I can imagine is that the R36 will be an even bigger jump revelation.

    you need to compare the R36 to the 530i

    both the R36 and 530i drive quite similarly - the difference is, that for $70k or so, you are buying a new R36 with 4wd, 220kw, high performance, lots of extras or a 3 to 4 yo 530i with no extras. Still, the BMW drives well, looks great and goes pretty well. I bought the R36.

    I hear ya...try and find a 530i that has heated front seats...let alone front and rear...it's all academic anyway.

    With the arrangement with my employer my car has to be either new or a demo...no second hand cars.

    Will test drive the R36 tomorrow at Werribee VW...the guy from Essendon VW assured me he would have one in this week and ring me...never did...hmmm

    With the R36 does it have an AV input for the MFD with Sat Nav?

    Just wondering if it's possible to wire in a TV Tuner?

    And just on the AWD system..how does it work. Is it constant 25% each wheel akin to my Liberty or it it split depending on loss of traction?

    you can get a tv tuner from o/s therefore not sue if it works here. as for seperate inputs none that are easy to access. not sure on the back side of the unit.....

    the AWD system is mostly front wheel drive this is a good description of it :

    As soon as differences in the speeds of rotation between the front and rear axles occur two annular piston pumps are activated which build up pressure in the multi-plate coupling (Haldex system) thus "coupling" the two axles to each other. The transmitted torque can be varied by adjusting the pressure on the coupling plates, thus controlling the flow of power between the front and rear axles. The coupling provides an infinitely variable torque transfer between the front and rear axles. In extreme cases up to 100 percent of the available torque can be transmitted to the rear axle. In the normal case with the vehicle travelling in a straight line at a constant speed with no differences in the wheels' grip, 90 percent of the available torque is transmitted to the front axle and ten percent to the rear axle. The Haldex coupling is driven by the propshaft.
