R36 needs new shocks and discs+pads

    Hello!

So ive owned this VW R36 sedan for years without having to replace a single part. Now the time has come (reaching 164,000 klms) that the good ol guys at VW service centre have given me a nice little XMAS list of things i need to replace. I would like to not purchase from VW, rather seek your advice on good OEM alternatives.

The below 4 points are what VW said i need done.. any advice on brands, part numbers, and even places on Sydney Northern Beaches to have the work done is most appreciated.

    1. SLIGHT OIL LEAK FROM FILTER HOUSING, WILL REQUIRE NEW FILTER HOUSING

    2. O/S/F AND N/S/F ANTI ROLL BAR LINKAGES WORN AND REQUIRE REPLACEMNT

    3. O/S/R SHOCK STARTING TO LEAK OIL AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH
    REAR SHOCKS

    4. REQUIRE NEW BRAKE PADS AND DISCS FRONT AND REAR

I've read DBA discs matched with Remsa pads aren't a bad choice, and also Bilstein B8's for the shocks are a goer. But i seek your advice! Also, should i replace the transmission dog-bone and all of the suspension bushes with performance versions at the same time?

    Thanks in advance.

Agreed - Derek and his team are excellent!

As for new suspension components, I went with KW V3's and H&R anti-roll bars. I also had all the bushes replaced with performance versions and I did the dog-bone too.

A word of warning on the dog-bone - it does introduce some drone at idle... this pissed me off at first, but, like most things, you do get used to it. As for any advantages it introduces, I dunno... I don't know what to look for so I can't really comment on its values. I was sold on the upgrade because I was told "everyone-does-this-when-upgrading-their-suspension:, so I went with it!

As for the V3's and the H&R antiroll bars - sensational upgrade! Not cheap, but worth every cent in IMHO.

Derek and the boys also did my VWR BBK which is also a fantastic upgrade to get too!

    Its only money!!

I have ATE ceramic pads and ATE rotors up front, they produce no dust that is noticeable at all.
Very happy with them if that's a consideration. Will be using them again in the Octy when its up for pads/rotors next.

+1 for the ATE Pads and also as an alternative, the t2 dba slotted rotors are an excellent combo.
    cheers

Thanks for your responses. Can you share a link to a place to purchase these ATE pads and discs? Sounds like the ATE discs paired with ATE ceramic pads are the way to go - you've mentioned these for the front, same goes for the rears?

As for the KW V3's... i've seen its around $2000k for a pair of these.. a little out of my price range... Can someone suggest a good mid-range alternative to the OEM's? Cheers!

Also, found these shocks: Koni VW Passat 3c R36 07 12 Rear Sport Shocks Dampers | eBay

Would these be suitable and are Koni shocks any good?
