R36 Key has gone through the wash

I left it for a few days to dry out and gave it a try. Unlocked the car once but now refuses to work. Any ideas on how to bring it back to life ?

    Thanks

The first thing i would do is replace the battery as water would of made it short out, the chip should be ok as its sealed but the remote part might be gone .

Open it up, remove battery and rinse the rest with clean fresh water. Sit it in the sun for a day or two to dry out, put in a fresh battery and put it back together. Try to avoid touching the computer chip board inside. Because it went through the wash there might be a bit of soap residue hence the suggestion of washing with clean water.

Failing that you can buy the keys either from VW (very expensive) or you can get aftermarket copies on eBay. VW Dealer has to program it I believe, but perhaps somebody here might know the method for this so that you can do it yourself.

Using it after it got wet was probably not the best idea, that might have given your key the rest. Best thing to do is putting the key in a jar of rice for a day and see if it works again afterwards!

    Good Luck!
