R36 How do they perform in the long term?

    Hey guys,

Looking at buying an R36 wagon and just wondering if you had any feedback for me on what these cars are like when 60,000+ or nearing 100,000 on the odometer? Are there any issues commonly found with these vehicles at all and is it OK to buy one in this mileage range or is lower a better option?

    Cheers.

Just trying to decide between going with a car around 40,000km or 80,000kms. All 2009, price variation almost $10k in some cases. Was ideally looking at the lower mileage vehicles but the price difference makes a good case.

Not sure if you've given it thought, but were you concerned with options/changes of the R36 variants?

    - White MFD vs Red MFD (Changed over to white late 2009)
    - RNS510 V RCD510 (I would have bought one with the RNS if I could go back)
    - Sunroof (Wouldn't buy one without it)
    - Adaptive Cruise Control (I think only on the MY10.5 R36s)

From what I've read and my own little research I think the earlier 2008-early 09 models had the DSG issues, but they made changes in the later 09 ones which resolved them for the most part.

There was a software update available as well, which my car received a while back and I've yet to see any real problems apart from my squeaky wipers.

Depending on how hard you drive, petrol may be of concern, hah. I tend to get around 10.5l/100km on average with mixed driving so not that bad.

Not concerned with petrol use, but was definitely after the 2009+ models with the white MFD, RNS and sunroof would be nice. Really just wondering if the extra money for a car with 30,000kms less was worth it?

I saw one with about 45,000 kms on it for $35k on carsales.. Looked like a really good option.

Id be looking for one as low to 30000 or just had the 60000 service done. Obviously as low to 30000 being the preference.
