R36 60K service, what is a reasonable price to pay

    Hi all,
It's been a while since I have posted and after a slap in the face at my dealership service centre, I thought it was time to leverage the collective minds once again.

My MY09 R36, which I have loved for near 4 years has hit 60K and it needs a service. I called into my regular VW service dealer who always does a good job and asked for a quote and was told it would cost $2200. My question to the team, is this normal or am I being had?

I have a 6 year warranty and want to keep the car but not if I have to give blood at service time.

    Looking forward to your responses.

Try European Autotech at Mona Vale (or other independants). I did my recent 30k service (still under New Car warranty and does not affect it) there and saved ~$200. I'd be going back there for my next 45k.

    I don't charge more than $1400. Usually around $1250.
Get another quote from a different dealer if you don't want to use an independent VW specialist.

Ask for a break-down of the costs.

R36s are the most expensive passenger vehicle VW to run, not including the Touareg. The cheapest as far as current model stuff goes being a Golf TDI manual.

At 60K, you're servicing the DSG and Haldex coupling, replacing spark plugs, the pollen filter, the oil filter, and 6.5L of engine oil, and probably the brake fluid, plus a tyre rotation and balance.

There's around $400 in just the oil needed.

You might need pads and rotors as well. It all adds up.

So, I am assuming that the B7 V6 should be around the same price considering the same engine and awd?

Thanks to all, great feedback. I will look at independents and some other quotes as long as it doesn't affect my extended warranty.

laws in australia prevent car manufacturers from voiding your warranty if services at a 3rd party.

They can if it's not serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations with regards to oils parts and service schedules.
