    Problem with air con

    Hi all,

I need help. My air con is not blowing in the cold air anymore.
I ran self diagnostic of climat control and it showed me this fault code 382. I googled and found that this could be 00898 - Control Circuit A/C compressor.

Does any one know what it is? Does it mean that I need to replace comressor? How much does it cost?

    I live in Melbourne North.

    Thank you.

You should talk to VW about a goodwill claim because it is a known problem. They may pay part or all of the bill for a new compressor.

Compressor is a dear repair, not only that if it has went south the whole system need to be flushed otherwise you fit a new one and its life expectancy will be decreased. These compressor lose their puff around 60K. Most that go out of puff still work but not as efficient, eventually it will be a replacement, and if done properly flushed

    HI,

Have you had a look at the engine fans? Are they both working? Apparently if one of these fail, the A/C dos not blow cold air.

    Hi,

Thanks guys for all your inputs. I have booked in my car tommorow at VW dealer. I will ask them about a "good will"
I checked the fans and they are both working.
Will see what the dealer says tommorow...

    Hi,

Ok, i went to the dealer and they found compressor to be faulty. The thing is that it is faulty electronically, i.e. something inside the compressor (some electronic staff). I asked them about a "good will" claim and they said that they can't do it for 2 reasons: my car is more than 1 year out of warranty and this case is not what they would have been covering with this claim. Normally it is mechanical problem not electronic. Not happy about this outcome.

So they said that the compressor needs to be replaced and re-gased. Total cost would be $1550 (trade price). And they offered me a discount of $300. So the final cost is $1250.

Well... i have thought and have decided to have a go and replace it with VW.

Thank you guys for all your inputs. I will post once I have it done.
