Post Factory RVC Installation for Wagon

We just purchased a Passat wagon off the floor from Barloworld in Melbourne. The wagaon did not have sat nav so they are installing it. The dealer claims they cant do an installation of the reversing camera if it left the factory without it.

I am having trouble believing this considering the item must be repairable in case someone has an accident.

Anyone have any success getting a dealer to do an install?

I can see the guys in EU have done installations themselves but i am not game at this stage. http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7819

Appreciate anyone's advice on where i can get this done in Melbourne.

That's what mine reckons, too. Mine was one of the first batch of produced-for-Australia R36's and VW Australia forgot to tell the factory to put the reversing camera on it... and rather than install one they gave us a cheque and said sorry

I know it can be done, but from all accounts it's a bit of a pain in the arse. If you find someone in Melbourne who can do it then I might be tempted...

I bought my V6 wagon almost a year ago now and purchased it with RNS510 as an accessory, the RVC was not even an accessory option, as you said if the car doesnt ship from Germany with it, the dealer wont add it. I didnt want to wait 4-6 months for a car and they said it wasnt a problem...As it turned out they coulndt supply the RNS510 until Feb this year (almost 8 months wait and plenty of emails) because it was new at the time to be offered as an accessory. I must say it was well worth the wait, I dont miss the RVC, the sensors seem to be ok for me. WWW.Kufatec.de in Germany offer the OEM add on RVC kit if it helps.

we have the rvc on our satnav and i reckon 95% of the time you're happy to go with the beepers. so its not as big a deal as i thought. the guidance lines are however a neat party trick. i would say anything over $500 and just live without it.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

I agree with TRYINGAVW, I have the RVC on my wagon and most of the time I use the beeper and the mirrors, i thinks it just habit!. Its a nice thing to have but if someone said you need to give me $500 for it I we keep the money, unless you have a very specific need for it of course.

Mind you, if your the type that can't park or reverse to save yourself, it could be a blessing
