    Polishing the Passat

I've finally invested in a sander/polisher to fix the swirl marks that 'came with' my Passat.

Was at the Autosalon show at Fox Studios recently, and got some great advice on paint care.

Has anyone else got experience polishing the B6 Passat - I'm wondering if you have noticed how hard it is to remove light scratches / swirls.

I'm actually suspecting that the paint might be ceramic (ala Mercedes). Anyone willing to confirm or deny?

I'm about to start a two stage process:
    1. Juice X Cut (1200grit removal) with wool pad.
    2. Presta Swirl Remover with foam pad.

    Will report success/failure.

Regrettably the paint is not the Mercedes scratch resistant type. I think they will hang onto that technology for sometime as it is very good.

I have polished my Black B6 once since new. It came up very well. I used a Porzelak Polish with Teflon to try and fill in the swirls and give better protection until the next polish. It worked very well. However, I need to polish it again soon.

    Job Done

Well, it took a while but finally finished.

Will post some pics after final clean and wax application.

Took a while but was worth it. Got out a year's worth of little scratches and scuffs, and then got the swirl marks out, leaving pretty awesome result.

Still can't believe the car was delivered to me in such bad shape. Wish I knew what i was looking for back then.

Warning to new black car buyers - check your car's paintwork in direct sunlight. It should not have any 'swirls'. if it does then its been detailed poorly. Insist on it being fixed before you accept it.
