hey ugg why not update your details so we know what kind of passat you got?
I just returned from a trip around Australia....19000 ks in 6 weeks.. finally getting used to the hard seats I complained about before... Before I left I had new tyres fitted but there was a problem with vibrating steering.. I had the 2008 passat booked in for a service and they found that the rack, whatever that is, had to replaced. they had that in stock but had to wait a couple of days for a new wiring loom for the new rack as the old loom had a different plug or something..what ever the loom has to do with the steering? Picked up the car and we left that night.... The vibration was gone but there is to much play in the steering wheel.. It was out and out nerve wracking when passing road trains and caravans... really had to keep correcting it... Going around a long sweeping bend where you keep pressure on the wheel one way it is perfect, does not deviate... It is booked in for a service wednesday and I have asked them to check it out. How much play should there be and is it something that can be adjusted...
By the way, great trip and the car was fantastic...except the passing..LOL Never owned a car before that people ask what I think of it.... At least 5 people asked about it... I didn't tell them the steering was crap though...
