    Honda CRV 2013
    Hyundai Sante Fe 2013

JUst wondering how The PASSAT WAGON would go for space in the back seat in terms of two baby seats and whether people in the front seat have enough leg room and are comfortable (i suppose bit taller than average adults) and whether the boot will fit a couple of prams etc

Any helpful advice would be appreciated as it is doing my head in!!!!!

Im leaning towards a VW Passat Wagon but wife is worried that it is too small for a family car and the VWs cost a lot to maintain and aren't reliable cars...but i reckon it drives and looks great

    HELP
We have an 07 Passat V6 Wagon, 46000km. we are just back from a Sydney/Thredbo trip. Plenty of room for me, wife and two boys (3 and 5), three large suitcases, jackets bags and groceries etc. Also have an aftermarket DVD mounted on the back of the drivers seat feeding off the lighter socket on the back of the centre console. Car was great on the open road with enough power for over taking with all the gear etc.

Negatives - two failed catalytic converters, an engine rebuild (paid for by insurance), needs new brakes, jammed park brake. Some would say wear and tear but my subaru or BMW have been driven a lot harder and have never worn so quickly or had such problems.

we have a Passat 125TDI wagon as the family hack and it is brilliant.
2 baby seats. one is a 4yr old, the other an 18mth old. no issue with rear legroom or front legroom. this car replaced a Manual only Subaru Outback wagon. I guess the liberty will be the same space wise (with auto) but no auto with the diesel. The outback had more legroom but not as much accomplished as a car TBH.

Boot in the passat wagon is massive. Larger dare I say than the outback.

We permanantly carry 2 prams in the back of it. One is a double pram (city Mini jogger double) and the other a single pram/stroller (Maclaren). no issues whatsoever in fitting both of these in the back, with room for some shopping.

Perhaps also consider an OPEL Insignia wagon....
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

Does OPEL have the same quality as VW?

I think Iam going to take the plunge and get the passat wagon my13 in black with Panasonic roof, driver assistance package and park assist!

Maybe extended warranty... How long extra does it cover you and approx cost? Also has anyone got the booster built in the vw wagon offer?

Thanks for ur help keep the opinions and advice coming

I've been considering the Insignia myself. According to German reliability survey (DEKRA or something like that) it has been voted the most reliable car in 2012. Hmm....don't know how true is that, as general impression on the Opel brand isn't good.

The other concern I have is how successful Opel will be here in Australia. Sure, Astra was a success, but that was under a Holden badge at $19990. Vectra (the predecessor of insignia) was a disaster here. Financially GM is doing bad globally and how they have dumped Saab is a great concern. VAG on the other hand is actually making money and is on it's way to threaten Toyota to be the largest automaker in the world.

Other things I am looking at as a family wagon includes the new B class. Sure, it's a lot smaller (on the outside), but internally it is quite spacious. It's rear leg room is as big as S class, boot space is 488L (almost as big as Insignia's 500L, but nowhere near Passat's 608L and Superb's enormous 660L). Got a lot of safety features and most options are well priced. (compared to Passat's $3300 Bixenon!) GPS and RVC together with 12 speaker sound system is $2990, you can get Bixenon and sunroof for $2490, driver assistance for $2490 as well. Overall will be about same as Passat and you get a Merc.

placing order today i reckon also looking at extended 2yr warranty but i think its a bit much at $3,450 i have been quoted (that already includes a $500 discount) is that price reasonable cos if it is i reckon too much and wont get it and take my chances with the DSG gearbox lasting 5years

It's probably worth while to check with other insurance company. I think VW extended warranty is covered by Allianz anyway. You might be able to get a cheaper deal using a third party one. Yeah, $3450 is a bit too much. (is that for 2 years extended warranty?)

You don't need to get the extended warranty at time of purchase, just before the original warranty runs out.

Wouldnt bother with Park assist unless you cant drive Mine came with it and Ive used it once in 18 months. Easier just to do it myself and save the money

    Yeah 2 years warranty

Wasnt aware that you get extended warranty of your car from a third party? Does it work the same?

In terms of extending the warranty you can still pay that much if you are under 10,000 km or else it increases to 4.5k
