    Passat Wagon 2010 model ??

    Hi All,

In a market for a new car and have been hearing quite a bit about VW from colleagues at work. Went to a dealer today and test drove a Passat and must admit, I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT !!!!!

As expected, could not find a car anywhere in Australia that had the spec we needed. The only choice I have is to order one with the spec we wanted; delivery early Nov. In the process the sale guys had said if we place an order we would drive away with the 2010 model.

Guess my question is can anyone shed some light in or have heard what would the difference between the '09 and '10 model??

Also, since this is my first attempt in purchasing a new car, can anyone advice on what sort of figures (after negotiation) that I would be happy driving away with for a Passat wagon considering the current financial climate and all!!

Appreciate advice from anyone and thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
Firstly, welcome & great choice! We picked up our MY09 Wagon on Thursday and we have been loving it!

Advice on price, ask about corporate discount. You should get it if you are a member of a professional society like APESMA, Pharmacuetical Society of Aus, etc... If you are not a member yet, tell them that you can easily sign up but want to know the car price first to know if it will be worth your while. You can even just sign up for one month just to get the discount (we have been told that some people have done this before). Anyway, the discount can be substanstial, for us it was 10% of the car price (not including options) then a big discount off the registration. We then added a whole bunch of options, bargained a little more and edded up with a discount of over $8000. We asked to make it a nice round number (don't get too greedy, just the nearest 1000 or 500) and it was a done deal.

Our spec was also not available, so we had to wait 5 months for the car. It was worth it!

    Hi Nting,

    Thank you.

I've used my company's corporate discount on the initial pricing which brought the price down by 10% but I do think that there's more room for negotiation.

At this stage the wife is a little sceptic on buying a car that she hasn't seen the look of (i.e. th 2010 model). I doubt theat there are any changes to the look of the car but more added features and refinements.

Guess the new model could only be better I'd imagine.

BTW - any comments on the the trade-in process?? Since we are potentially waiting at least 4 months for the car, I'd imagine the dealer wouldn't be interested in negotiating on the changeover price.

Correct. Not unless you're willing to trade now (i.e be without a car). However with the amount of time needed to deliver your car, you should be able to sell privately.

I was hoping to trade my '86 Celica. But they offered me $100. So I held onto it and sold it privately before the car arrived. The dealer should contact you once it arrives off the boat. From that point it's about 2 - 3 weeks before you get it. So you could try to sell your car then and the timing might be just right. If you want more money for your car though, you may need to sell earlier or live with the extra car for a while.

There definitely is still room to negotiate after the corporate discount so go for it. Who knows what they will do for the sale right now.

Not sure about MY10 but you now have the choice of a few extra options that early MY09 missed. I think ACC (Assisted Cruise Control) and Lane Assist may be available. They are mentioned in the current brochure and appear in my car handbook (a massive Passat bible!).

Ah, I can't believe I'm sitting here wishing I was sitting in the car instead. Not necessarily driving, but just sitting in the leather seats and smelling that new car smell. Aahhh...

Tell your wife that my wife absolutely loves the car! I have not been able to wipe the smile off her face. I think she even fell asleep smiling! Haha, seriously it's a great car and I think the long wait has made us treasure it even more. Trying to not be materialistic, but we really love the car.

BTW, I'm happy to post up the spec and price that we negotiated. At least you'll have an idea if you're able to ask for more off. Mind you this was negotiated back in January, it may be different (more/less) now.

i drove a CC with this last week- it is amazing. the car will pull up at lights behind cars in front by itself ( we did it down a hill )

when the light changes you just hit the gas and away you go - cruise is re-engaged and it keeps the distance. the sales guy said he did 5 sets of lights without braking and i believe him.

it is a 2k option though.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

    Hi nting,

    Thanks again.

Wouldn't mind getting an idea on the specs you went with and roughly the final price you ended up with. Just wanted to get my head around what a 'reasonable' price I could expect without being screwed.

The wife loved the car!!! How do I know, she's letting me buy it !!! WOOO HOOO!!!!

    Hi dcashion,

What spec did you get with the MY10 wagon??

Did the sales guy happen to mention what extras you would get in a MY10 from the MY09 model??

How much deal you ended up with if you don't mind me asking?? Is it in NSW??
