PASSAT R36 RNS 510 crash and re-boot wyong NSW

Hi, I am a noob to this forum

I got my Car in January.

I was driving it to the central coast on day 3 (fromt the huntervalley NSW) using the sat nav on the RNS510 and midflight (so to speak) the screen goes black on a particular stretch of flat road. Then the machine keeps re-booting and freezing and then turning itself back on (keeps giving me the same messag "navigation starting" and freezing on that screen"

Took it back to the dealer, and he couldn't even test the machine it was so fried. Had it replaced.

Took a drive a 2 weeks ago (new RNS 510 in place) and at precisely the same stretch of road after makeing the same trip the same thing happened. For the whole time i was in Wyong (NSW) the machine kept resetting and re-booting. In fact for a while I had the keys out of the ignition and the CD player was still playing a funny warbling version of the song I was listening to.

Once I got out of wyong, the machine worked properly - had it tested and the service technician couldn't find fault with it.
My brother (who recently purchased a passat CC ) experienced similar problems, but only in wyong.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Very similar

This is quite strange. My dearly beloved took my r36 for a trip up to the central coast yesterday to drop off a friend at Ourimba which is about 10km south of Wyong. She rang me last night to tell me that the satnav played up as she approached Ourimbah and described an almost identical scenario. Now that I know it's not a "one-off" problem I would be inclined to think it could be a software problem with the mapping data.

    I'm not that bad! LOL

There were a number of intros:-

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone!

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into... the Twilight Zone.

    Google is great! LOL

My theory is: it's not a problem with the position, more a problem with the length of the drive. It takes me about an hour to get to wyong from where I live, similarly it takes my brother around the same period of time. So maybe a heat issue or a electrical fault with the main cpu software in the car (as opposed to the RNS510).
Unfortunately the twilight zone and a CIA plot are unlikely suspects as the Americans are still incapable of understanding irony.
My wife thinks that there is a black hole in the central coast that hates volkswagens. I'm not sure I agree, but I left a burnt offering on the side of the road just in case.

My Menu's are blue, not silver. I think I just got a brand new unit.
Meethinks we are all in for a software recall and upgrade.

Now if I could only work out how to get a random playlist from the USB hard-drive I have plugged in to the Media-in socket I had installed.
Does anyone else know how I can get that going?
I can see all the songs, but it only picks a single folder to give me a random mix of music. I have 150gig just not being chosen.

That fits what happened to my satnav yesterday. However, when the other half rang me today she said the same thing happened after a relatively short trip of ten minutes. From what I can gather the satnav worked well for ten minutes and then shut down. After a restart it worked ok again forabout a minute before the map froze. She restarted it again, entered the destination, it said it was calculating the route and then the screen went blank and the radio went on and off a few times before dying. Got me a little intrigued.

    Rns510

Well my other half came home the other day looking a bit upset and said the SATNAV, Radio -the works, screen had packed it in completely .

So I went and checked it out and she didnt know the left hand button as well as being volume is the on/off.

She was very pleased with that fix and so was I !

Just got back from a trip to Sydney in my R36 sedan and the exact same thing happened to me in the same area!!! Twice!! On my way into Sydney and then when I drove back out. There must be a dead zone for this specific unit. How Freaky!!

P.S The drive was absolutely awesome!! 8 hours from Gold Coast to Sydney
