PASSAT R36 RNS 510 crash and re-boot wyong NSW

Hi, I am a noob to this forum

I got my Car in January.

I was driving it to the central coast on day 3 (fromt the huntervalley NSW) using the sat nav on the RNS510 and midflight (so to speak) the screen goes black on a particular stretch of flat road. Then the machine keeps re-booting and freezing and then turning itself back on (keeps giving me the same messag "navigation starting" and freezing on that screen"

Took it back to the dealer, and he couldn't even test the machine it was so fried. Had it replaced.

Took a drive a 2 weeks ago (new RNS 510 in place) and at precisely the same stretch of road after makeing the same trip the same thing happened. For the whole time i was in Wyong (NSW) the machine kept resetting and re-booting. In fact for a while I had the keys out of the ignition and the CD player was still playing a funny warbling version of the song I was listening to.

Once I got out of wyong, the machine worked properly - had it tested and the service technician couldn't find fault with it.
My brother (who recently purchased a passat CC ) experienced similar problems, but only in wyong.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Very similar

This is quite strange. My dearly beloved took my r36 for a trip up to the central coast yesterday to drop off a friend at Ourimba which is about 10km south of Wyong. She rang me last night to tell me that the satnav played up as she approached Ourimbah and described an almost identical scenario. Now that I know it's not a "one-off" problem I would be inclined to think it could be a software problem with the mapping data.

    I'm not that bad! LOL

There were a number of intros:-

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone!

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into... the Twilight Zone.

    Google is great! LOL

I've had exactly the same issue, except mine occured when going down south past Goulburn all the way to Cooma, or Braidwood or Tumbarumba.
The thing would just keep restarting every few minutes, and no functions like radio, aux in, sat nav would work. Sometimes I would be lucky and just the Sat Nav function would freeze up, and I could use the steering wheel controls to change audio functions.

After 4 trips to the dealer supply photo and video evidence they finally replaced it and I haven't had a problem since. I know I now have a different version of the RNS510 be it software or hardware to my original RNS510 . The first one had blue coloured menu's, where as this one has silver menu's.

What coloured menu's does yours have?

There are software updates available, but are only done as necessary, and I'm not sure as to what they're meant to rectify.

I suspect that there could be some electrical interference in certain areas.

For the people who experianced it in Wyong, maybe suggest that your dealer call the dealer nearest to Wyong, to see if any of their customers are having the same issue.

That's probably not a bad idea. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks.
