Now I'll have to investigate it further... If VW can/wont do it I'll go to my local installer whom I have tyrusted with my cars before and see what he can recommend/do...

I'll probably get a second mic and test it in a couple locations before I get it installed though... I assume the mic is a standard hi gain capacitive unit like all the others??

Cruising around the web I have found some interesting stuff on VW bluetooth...

This appears to be the brand of units fitted by VW in OZ..

    Techaudio

And here are some interesting links...

This one shows the mic installed in o/head console..

For the genuine bluetooth kit, does it come with a key pad which can be hided in the top centre console there? Or it is a different one

The dealer fitted unit has no controls or keypad... The audio volume is controlled via the stereo or steering wheel buttons while in a call, and the answer/hangup/voice dial (if supported by your phone) is controlled via the buttins on the steering wheel.

Now I have the echo issue sorted I have enabled the voice dial on my phone.... works a treat I must say. I have a completely different view of the system now.

Phonebook access and caller display via the MFD would be good but not essential IMO

I had mine also fitted at Camberwell Volkswagen. When i asked where the microphone would be mounted they said anywhere as long as the cable would be long enough. I had it mounted at the A pilar.

The sound i get through the factory speakers is good, however the caller hears a lot of background noise and the sound quality even with engine off is not very good. No echo though.

The old hardwired Nokia kits provided much better sound quality.

I wonder if sound quality would be better if the microphone was installed closer to the driver (in the top centre console perhaps?)

The A Pillar and the overhead console would be about same distance from ya head I reckon but perhaps there would be less noise introduced in the centre position

So far I am happy with the kit now the echo is gone. My mic is mounted same place as chuckey's (third post in this thread)

The A pillar is a bit of a PIA and the roof mounted console would be a BIG PIA... NO bloddy wonder the VW tech take the "easy" route...

If I get further issues I'll be buying a second mic and trying it in various positions before I mount permanently.

I agree the old hardwired kits were pretty much bullet proof AND they had a cradle and charged the bloody phone....

Now we have crap audio, nowhere to put the phone, an ugly charger hangin outa the lighter socket.... and that's progress... MY ASS!
