    Passat Auto Tailgate Sensor

    Hey all,

A quick and hopefully easy one, my R36 wagon with auto tailgate optioned occasionally will come up saying that the boot is open and stay like this even though it is firmly shut. Anyone with auto tailgate will know they can't be slightly open given how much force the mechanism shuts with and then it keeps pushing for a second or two.

It used to only do this if the boot had recently opened and usually you just had to open and shut it again to clear it, but this morning the car wasn't chirping on lock and when I went back to it to investigate why, it was because when I got out of the car and shut the door and walked away, at some point the sensor decided the boot was now open after weeks of not using it. So I think the problem is probably getting worse.

I visually inspected the mechanism, nothing is loose, and it's difficult to replicate because it always fixes itself after one open/close anyway. Could this be an issue of contacts needing cleaning or a sensor somewhere to investigate?

    Cheers,
    Jake

Prob the micro switch in the latch itself as the release motors in them latches fail quite a lot.
