Dunlop Sport MAXX RT or Conti Sportcontact 5 are superb, both quite pricey however.

+1 OEM on my MY12.5 125TDI and they provide excellent wet and dry properties.

If the budget is a little tighter, I would look at the Bridgestone RE002 Adrenalin. Great tyre but slightly noisier that the SportContact5. Both are performance oriented tyres.

For a touring tyre, look at Michelin Primacy. It is a very quite and comfortable tyre.

I have driven on all the above tyres on various cars that I have or current own.

Michelin Primacy (I've got 65,000km out of my Primacy HP & still have 2.5mm before they hit the wear bars).
    Toyo Teo
    yokohama DB
    Continental Premium Contact

You're probably looking around the $150-$180 mark for those. There are cheaper tyres but you'll soon forget the price.

When first fitted they were significantly quieter than the ContiSportContact2 or the KU31 Kumho that I had previously. Now that they are under 50% they can be noisy on certain road surfaces. The smoother, newer the road the worse they are. It also depends on the wheel alignment - very quiet last year after i had an alignment done, then I pulled the front suspension apart in March & they got a bit noisy again and I doubt that the setting changed more than a mm or 2.

If you are really concerned about noise then the Toyo Teo+ & Yokohama DB are very quiet.

Michelin PS3 are a great all-rounder too but you won't quite get the mileage of the Primacy HP.

I believe theres a new Primacy out now as well Primacy3?
