Passat 130 TDI transmission 'sliping'

Hello All,

I had a disconcerting experience with my 2014 Passat 130 TDI yesterday. The car has 35,000km on the clock.

I was parked on an incline and a friend had parked close behind me. I put the car in D and took my foot off the brake to drive away. The car immediately starting rolling backwards. It hit the brake, checked I was actually in D and tried again. Same thing. By then I was uncomfortable close to my friend's bull-bar, so I used my left foot on the brake to hold the car while accelerating with my right foot until the transmission engaged and I was able to drive away.

Later that day I had exactly the same problem reversing out of a sloping driveway with a car in front of me.

Auto Hold was switched off, but I didn't think the transmission NEEDED the Auto Hold to function properly on a hill start. Have I got that wrong?

This is normal for a DSG gearbox. I always try to remember that it is technically a manual gearbox and just like a manual if you aren't quick enough from the brake to the accelerator/clutch you can roll back or forth on an incline. I presume this is why VW includes the Auto-hold function.

You can also use the parking brake - engage it, and then when you apply enough throttle to overcome the incline, the park brake will automatically release.

Auto hold is best kept on if you want to let the car sort itself out rather than the driver having to figure out such manoeuvres

Thanks again. I'm not sure why the Auto Hold was off. It's usually on. Maybe my L Plater son was fiddling with buttons.

If your drivers door is open or your seat belt is not on then autohold does not function. Put autohold on with the button lit and remove your seatbelt. Autohold will turn off. A lot of people dont have there seatbelts on when moving out of a tight spot...so think autohold doesnt work.

Thanks Darkhorse. You're right. I think that might have been what happened.
