Parking sensors how to turn off ???

Was wanting to know if anyone knows how to turn the parking sensors off permanently. Before you ask why, 1st they annoy me the bloody beeping sounds like a computer game going mad, 2nd I don't believe in them or reversing cameras, Sorry if this offends anyone but if you can't reverse properly using your mirrors you need to redo your licence or learn how to drive or better still get a car thats no to big for you.

Grealtly appreciated if anyone knows a trick to turn them off without pulling out the fuse.

You can de-attatch the sensors lume adaptor to the sensor itself. Therefore you won't get any annoying indications on the MFD problem solved

Bottom line, if you're fully aware of your surroundings, you're NOT going to hit anyone or anyone unless they do something that means it's un-avoidable for you to and in that case, it would be their fault.

To the OP, I agree with you but don't mind the front sensors as a backup for front spoiler protection. If the gutter is too high for the spoiler to go over, they pick it up. Just nice to have. Can't often hear the beeps above the music anyway. But other than that - nobody should NEED or have to RELY on sensors or cameras.

You could ask the dealer to disable the sensors if you want. It's not illegal so they shouldn't have any problems with it.

Yeah, agreed... These Luddites who seem to think that they are somehow immune from the possibility of an accident and don't require the assistance of such contraptions... While you're at it disable the air bags, seat belts, abs, etc....


Please! I expect that if you disable them you will have issues with your insurance company... I'll be amongst the first to laugh when they deny your claim for that little accident where you didn't see the low bollard in the car park

They are there as a "comfort" item and as such are not something an insurance company would care about if they were disabled. They aresomething that assists you with the size of your car. The OP is 100% correct.

No such thing as an accident. If you hit something stationary it is YOUR FAULT for not being aware of it. And you do NOT need parking sensors to be aware of it. If someone takes a course of action that puts them in harms way and you cannot avoid it as a reult, it's not an "accident" as it is THEIR fault.

So if a little innocent child, who has no sense of danger or risk runs behind your car without you knowing while reversing, and you run over that child - Whos fault is it? Yes it would be the parents fault, but you as the driver would be held responsible.

Thats what parking sensors are for, who ever says they are aware of their surroundings at all time is just plain ignorant. We dont live in a perfect world, things are always changing, parking sensors are there to reduce the risk.

You should look into disabling the 4WD system as well, I'm sure you could arrange a modification to the haldex clutch system - if you can't launch the car quickly and go around corners without 4WD you need to redo your licence or learn how to drive or better still get a car thats no to quick for you.



I've been driving for 20 years, my Passat is the first car I've had with parking sensors, and while I can understand being annoyed by the beeps, I don't quite get why you need to disparage people who use them. I find them handy as an additional source of information. I can't be looking in all 4 directions at the same time. They alerted me to someone who stepped out behind me while I was reversing in a car park - I couldn't see them due to a big 4WD parked beside me. Sure, it was probably the pedestrian's fault for being inattentive, but I'd rather argue about that hypothetically than while they are lying on the ground behind my car.

Well, when I am wanting to park very close to a wall or fence or whatever, the parking sensors are a God send. Mirrors or not, you cannot judge the distance to a wall as well as the parking sensors will allow. The issue is sometimes, a small/short fence can be behind the car and out of sight of your mirrors, so no amount of mirror checking can guage the distance. When I drive into my garage, the front sensors allow me to get within 100-200mm of the wall which would be much more difficult than without them.

As for children running or being behind your car, I have found that they are actually quite a good safety feature, especially if you have been distracted by something else and miss a child quickly coming up on your rear in your blind spot. I live across from a infants/primary school and it has happened to me once and I was very glad that the sensors were there. Having said that, the fact that you have the sensors may also lead to that slight sense of taking less care because you think you can rely on the sensors to warn you if something is there. Regardless, it works and I would rather have them than not.

If you don't like the sensors, just get in to the habit of turning them off every time you put it into reverse.

Gee whiz you guys... there is a minority of people who for some reason can't see the benefits of technology like this. Remind me to be there and laugh when heaven forbid they make a mistake and it costs them money (hopefully that's the only consequence). For you guys with that train of thought - happy for you, now stay away from anywhere I may be, cos your I-don't need-anything-else-but-the-seat-of-my-pants is tiresome, boring and arrogant, and I don't want me or my family to be anywhere near you when you drive.

There've been some interesting tests done on drivers like you Rocket36 - and almost without fail they don't live up to their own over-inflated sense of awareness when it comes to objects around the car.

Saying "it wasn't my fault" will really help you sleep at night if you kill someone... congratulations. I'd like to hear you explain to the parents (whose fault it would be of course) that you had disabled the sensors that may have saved their child's life because "the noise pissed me off".
