    Park Brake noise - normal?

I hope to be able to assist more at some point within this forum but for the moment I seem to only have questions, Thanks for all those who have responded to my previous threads.

I was wondering if a 3-4 second growling noise is normal for the park brake to make?

I would expect this is a motor pulling up on the cable just as a normal park brake leaver would do. Given this would the longer the growl indicate that the park brake calipers need changing? While I am at it is the park brake a seperate unit from the back or front brakes? Also Has anyone ever experienced an emergency stop using the park brake, I'd be interested to see how quickly it pulls you up but don't want to do it with my car unless required....

    Thanks again all,

Mine does it and so did the car I took for a test drive so took it as normal.

I've noticed that the noise is longer if the car is parked on an incline - I'm guessing it detects the incline and puts the park break on harder to stop the car rolling.....

    Thanks again all,

Mine Makes the same noise when the park brake is applied. Seems to only come from the front on my car (though I am near the front right wheel when I press it I suppose).

In terms of the emergency stop, I haven't used it in a real world emergency situation (It is counter intiutive really "oh crap I need to brake quickly, forget my feet, better reach for the button"), but did try it out. Travelling at 60km/h, I pressed and held the button. There were a couple of beeps, and then the car brakes heavily until it stops. Dealer tells me the car applies 80% brakes, so not as good as using your foot, but ok if you were say driving a ford explorer down a melbourne freeway and couldn't get it to stop!!
