Just for the record, I have a B7 with Park Assist 2 & am certain the front sensors don't operate unless I either change to reverse first or press the button next to the gear lever. Puzzling!! I am going to re-read the manual. Is there a setting to auto activate?

Mine has the button pushed in all the time and the front sensors work automatically. I just leave it like that and if I get close to something they come on automatically and the screen changes to the sensor view.
I never have to reset the switch unless I consciously turn it off.
It doesn't turn off when the car is turned off.

I just tested this the other day as well - OPS shows up on the my RCD510 when you press the console button, and disappears when you turn off the sensors. If I select reverse, the camera picture shows up with a OPS in a wireframe overlaid on the side of the camera view. This is on a 2010 R36 with reversing camera, but no park assist.
This afternoon I got in mine, touched nothing as the Park button has been on for months.
Drove across the driveway and up to my neighbors garage door.
As I got closer the media display changed from radio to parking mode and the little bars in front of the car wriggled and jiggled as I got closer to the door. As I got right up to it they changed to red as they should.
I backed away and the display went to the RVC display.
I reversed into my garage beside the POLO and as the car got close to the rear quarter of the Polo the beeper went off as I park really close to it.
As the rear got past the Polo the beeps stopped until I got near the rear of the garage and they started again till I stopped.
This is the normal way they have always worked since June 2011.
The park button is lit and stays that way always.
When I am in reverse I have the picture of whats behind me with a stationary green frame and a moveable yellow frame which alters according to steering angle.
It should work to as with the satnav and park assist 2 it was a $3600 extra.

Found solution
I went to Vw burwin service centre to ask question about it...
Solution was really simple...
On B6 models and if you have park assist and front sensors you just need to press button next to knob for more then 3 sec and front sensors gonna activate. Now, if i driving less then 15 km front sensors activate(something i have just sound something screen comes out)
If you hold button for less then one second park assist hit...

OK, I read the manual again & it does mention about having this in auto mode. It says switch on then select reverse & then select forward gear & drive off at more than 15 kph. Tried on mine & this turned it off but the light in the switch also turned off. I would love to work out how to turn this on so it just stays on.![]()

Ok heres how mine works.
Get in car which is reversed into garage.
Turn on and pull into D When it goes through R it turns the Park sensor light on when it goes into D the light is still on and stays on until ign is turned off. When it turns on again same thing happens so it is always on.
When in garage the rear sensors activate and beep as its close to the rear door.
When I pull it into D the front sensors beep if the front door is still down
The switch stays on from then on

I contacted a VW dealer & they claim that different versions of the B7 would have different updates to software etc. Not sure I entirely believe that.
Apparently the way that the OPS is working for Hillbilly is the standard for Tourag & Passat CC.
Hillbilly, when did you take possesion of your car? I picked mine up in Feb 2012. Mine has exactly the same options fitted as yours except the RVC is aftermarket. Did you initially need to set this? If you manually turn yours off will it come back on when you turn the car on next time?

It is a March 2011 build and bought mid June Just before the update model came out Didnt have to set anything, just paid an exorbitant amount of money and drove it away.
Ok went out to the garage and tried a few things and this is what happened.
Put key in pulled gear lever back into D quickly Park button stayed OFF Flicked it back into P quickly Still stayed off.
Pulled lever back and paused in R light came on and camera picture showed up in display Pulled it back to D and light stayed on and OPS showed in display
Pushed it forward to R and camera display came on pushed it into P and light in button still stayed on
So try pausing as you pull it through reverse and see what happens Tried it with button both off and On in P and it did the same either way.
Hope all that makes sense
