there is no cam belt on a v6 VW, its a chain. might want to check what they actually did. my vr6 has done 195k and doesnt leak at all (as far as i know)
I have recently purchased a 1998 passat ,125k on the clock with good VW service history.
Love the car goes geat, handles well and very smooth wth 2.8 v6 engine.
Had my mechanic pull off the covers and have a good look as the dealer 3 month warranty expires this month.
He found the following.
Leaking rocker cover gaskets both sides.
Rear oil seals at back of engine leaking,
Cam shaft seals leaking
Breather hose needed replacing.
After battling the dealer (non Vw ) they agreed to repair all faults)
The dealer had just replaced the cam belt prior to delivery so that may explain the rocker cover gaskets, however not the rest.
Are Leaks at expected intervals normal for this motor? Anything else I should be looking for before the warranty exprires. Thanks

I'd look a little more deeply. If you have as many seals leaking as this then it would indicate to me that either:
There's too much crankcase pressure and this could be worn rings
or
the crankcase isn't being evacuated properly. In the old days you would look at the PCV valve but today...
98 Passat v6's do have cam belts and do leak from cam seals, rocker cover gaskets, rear main seals and breather pipes which become brittle and crack and like all VW engines and gearboxes weep and leak with a bit a mileage on them.
