Australian cars dont have OBD2 ports . They have diagnostic ports instead . 1995 from memory , although overseas theyve had them earlier

All imported VAG cars have had OBD2 (on board diagnostics 2) installed since 1994. Holden have had OBD2 since 2006, before 2006 I believe they had OBD1, however, I may stand to be corrected.

How come then I bought an OBDII module that fitted my B7 to supposedly auto retract the mirrors (It didnt)

Just so you know have a read of this even though the Passat is not listed List Of OBD2 / EOBD Compatible Cars In Australia

Toyotas only got it in 2007 except for the Echo Avalon and 1 Hilux model My 100 ser didnt have it It had a diagnostic port which is a different shape

Probably the hardware in your car doesnt support auto retract

To be fair, the module is just a method of communicating with your car - the software on the system is what allows you to actually make changes. So it could be that as h100vw said, your car may not have the hardware, or it could be the software you are using does not allow it.

Likewise that list you linked to is pretty woeful. As an example, they state MX5's started with OBDII ports in 2007+ - totally incorrect as they introduced it on the production line in 2000-2001 and it became active in MX5's from 2001-2002 MY - I have a 2003 MX5 and can use, and do, one of my OBDII scanners on this car to check for error codes. I think most cars had them from early 2000 (many having introduced it before then) although it depended on the MY of each car and whether it was worthwhile building these into the system

The Op question was quite simple " What was the first year a Passat had an OBDII port fitted."

Thats all I want to know .

Yes I realise the list is not perfect and was going to ask them to add the Passat in and thus the question.

I know its only a module which other cars have but are different shapes and are therefore NOT OBDII shape Toyota have a connector that allows you to do similar stuff but its a different shape

I know what I can do to my car which has nothing to do with the topic

My mirrors do retract but not auto with ign off. I have tried via VCDS as well

I've seen this before and there is a module required that you would need to enable it - given you've tried the VCDS, it unfortunately would need a module to allow it to happen. Sorry...
